    • A power conversion device (300) contains an electronic circuit (315) for sensing an output current characteristic of an output drive device. The characteristic of the current through the output drive device is sensed and communicated to a switching device (120) for controlling a sensing current (115). A sensing device (305) is coupled to the output drive device,senses the output current of the output drive device, and produces a second sensing current proportional to the sensed output current. An internal resistance device (31) is used for producing a sensing voltage (320). The internal resistance device is coupled with the switching device and receives the sensing current. The internal resistance device provides the sensing voltage from the sensing current proportional to the current through the output drive device.

    • A power conversion system, preferably a buck converter (310, 320, 330), having an oscillator, a pulse width modulator, and a nonoverlap clock generator and level shifter, wherein the improvement comprises the elimination of an external resistor divider is described. The buck converter can convert input ranging from approximately 3 V to 5 V down to approximately 0.7-1. OV, 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, and 3.3V without the use of resistor dividers. The voltage input identifiers select one of the possible output settings for flexibility and accuracy. The integrated field emitting transistors can provide a continuous current of at least 6 A. Additionally, peak current mode and an oscillator enable multiphase operation, up to ten buck converters, for up to 6OA output current. The multiphase operation reduces the output inductor size, and number of bulk capacitors. Moreover, the multiphase operation yields higher efficiency and provides high transient response for demanding applications.

    • A boost converter in which the conventional boost diode is replaced by a bidirectional normally conducting semiconductor switch. The circuit may be implemented so the bidirectional switch is self-driven by connecting a low voltage Schottky diode between a first gate-source terminal pair. An inrush current protection function may be provided by utilizing a second gate-source terminal pair to turn the switch on and off independent of the self-driven operation in response to predetermined excessive load current conditions. The inrush current protection function is implemented by use of a second Schottky diode connected between the second gate and source terminals, and an RC circuit connecting the second gate terminal to the return rail for the converter power output transistor with an externally controlled switch connected to the RC circuit to control the bias according to the load current.
