    • The invention relates to a sewing machine comprising a sewing needle drive (4) and an advancing drive for an item to be sewn, which comprises a continuous rotating drive (9), a conveyor belt (7) for the item to be sewn, and an intermediate drive (10), provided between the rotating drive (9) and the conveyor belt (7) and having two gear wheels. The output-side gear wheel can, with regard to the input-side gear wheel, can rotate in a forward wedging and rearward wedging manner by means of a control lever (14) that is driven by an eccentric drive (15) while being dependent upon the sewing needle drive (4). In order to create advantageous structural conditions, the invention provides that both gear wheels are provided in the form of mating gears (11, 12), of which the output-side gear is mounted in a connecting piece (13), which is held in a manner that enables it to rotate about the axis of the input-side gear (11) and upon which the control lever (14) acts.

    • The invention relates to a driving device for feeding material to be sewn in a sewing machine (1). Said device has a feeder (7) that can be coupled to a continuous rotating drive unit (9) by at least one intermediate drive. In order to obtain optimal, comparatively simple driving conditions, the intermediate drive comprises a belt drive (10) with a belt (13) rotating around a driving wheel (11) and a driven gear (12). The oversized belt (13) is moved by a control roller (14) in the area of the working strand (131) and by a belt tensioning roller (15) in the area of the return strand (132). The control roller (14) and the belt tensioning roller (15) are mounted crosswise to the rotational direction of the belt and can be moved back and forth periodically for the purpose of releasing or deflecting the belt (13) so as to decelerate, stop or accelerate the rotation of the driven wheel. The driven wheel (12) is connected rotationally with a feeder (7) designed as a rotating conveyor, specially a conveyor belt (20).

    • An intermittent drive mechanism includes a pair of non-circular dirve and driven gears (13, 14) for translating a constant velocity rotary motion of an input shaft (12) into a non-uniform velocity rotary motion of an intermediate shaft (15), the latter-­mentioned rotary motion having a sinusoidal angular speed pattern, and a harmonie speed reducer (17) drivingly connecting the intermediate shaft (15) to an output shaft (16) which is connected to a flexible spline of the speed reducer (17). A rigid circular spline of the speed reducer (17) is angularly reciprocated under the control of an eccentric cam (32) on the input shaft (12) in such a manner that the motion of the sinusoidal angular speed pattern is transmitted from the intermediate shaft (15) to the output shaft (16) in a certain decelerated condition only while the intermediate shaft (15) turns through a half of each turn. The motion transmission takes plane gently without causing undesired shock at the beginning and the end of the motion.
