    • Bundles of presized wood veneer strips are prepared for longitudinal edge adhesive by vertical alignment of the veneer strip face planes on a horizontal machine bed surface between open clamp jaws. Upon satisfactory alignment of the strip edges on the bed surface, the clamp jaws are closed on the bundle and translated from the bed surface to an adhesive transfer roll transverse plane. As the roll traverses the bundle length, adhesive is coated upon the veneer strip bottom edges. After completing the adhesive application pass, the clamp jaws are opened on manual command to release the veneer strip bundle for manual inversion. While the clamp jaws are open, the adhesive transfer roll is returned to the starting position. The clamp jaws are manually returned to the bed surface position and the opposite edge set of the inverted bundle is aligned against the bed surface and the process is repeated. After the adhesive has dried, individual strip pairs are joined in a common plane along longitudinal edges under simultaneous compressive pressure and adhesive curing heat.

While the clamp jaws are open, the adhesive transfer carriage is returned to the starting position with a non-rotating adhesive application wheel. Neither the adhesive application wheel nor the adhesive reservoir are structurally secured to the transfer carriage frame to facilitate respective isolation and solvent immersion for cleaning.

    • An apparatus for glueing together two different material layers, of which one is intended to form a first cover in a folder, file or the like and the other a second cover and/or a spine in the folder, file or the like, the glueing being carried out in an area where the layers overlap each other, by a glueing device included in the apparatus, said device coating one side of one layer with a glue strip along or close to one edge thereof. The apparatus also includes an aligning means (23, 25), which aligns both layers relative each other so that they overlap each other in an area which is at least as wide as the width of the glue strip, a pressing means (26, 28) pressing both layers towards each other in the area for the glue strip therebetween, and a feed means (6-10, 15-18, 29-32) for feeding the layers through the apparatus.

    • A machine for assembling diverse strip materials into a composite edge-laminated sheet from which insoles for shoes can be cut is disclosed. Stacks of insole strip materials are arranged on aligned, side by side loading platforms in a feeder portion of the machine. Adjacent edges of contiguous strips may be beveled to permit edge bonding by the machine into a single, composite, flat sheet. A vacuum device in the feeder portion picks up the top strips from each stack and delivers them to corresponding parallel endless belts. The strip from the centrally located loading platform and the strips from the two adjacent platforms are delivered to a first adhesive station where a hot melt adhesive is applied to the edges of the central strip or the corresponding inside edges of the outer strips. After passing the adhesive section, the strips are delivered to an assembly station where the two adjacent strips are moved laterally into alignment with the edges of the central strip. The three strips are then bonded together by being passed through suitable nip and pressure rolls. The resultant intermediate sheet is passed through a second adhesive section, where adhesive is applied to the outer edges, or the corresponding inside edges of the remaining strips, and then passes to a second assembly section. The remaining outer strips are then aligned with the edges of the intermediate sheet for joining by passing through a second set of nip and pressure rolls. The finished composite sheet is then delivered to a stacking station and subsequently may be cut into individual insoles of the desired size and composition.
