    • A filling valve for a pressurized fluid container, including a tube with a longitudinal bore (42) and a side port (47) formed therein, a piston (48) slidingly disposed in the tube (42), the piston (48) being formed with a bore (49) therethrough, a valve lever (68) pivotally attached to a portion (66) of the tube, the piston (48) including a jutting portion (58) which protrudes in a direction generally away from a bottom portion of the tube (42), a float arm (74) attached to the valve lever (68), and a float (72) mounted on the float arm (74), wherein when the float (74) is positioned at a generally obtuse angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the tube (42), the jutting portion (58) of the piston (48) is raised and supported by the valve lever (68), such that the piston (48) is raised and does not block the side port (47), thereby permitting fluid flow through the side port (47), and wherein when the float (72) is sufficiently buoyed by a fluid, the float arm (74) swings upwards and the jutting portion (58) of the piston (48) is no longer supported by the valve lever (68) and the piston (48) moves downwards and blocks the side port (47), thereby preventing fluid flow through the side port (47).

    • A fuel delivery system has a fuel pump (12) which draws fuel from a fuel tank (14) to supply pressurised fuel to the fuel metering system (23) of an internal combustion engine, and a conduit (38) connecting the pump intake (16) with an enclosed, pressurisable fuel reservoir (30) for accumulating return fuel therein so as to provide a ready source of liquid fuel to the pump (12) during conditions which cause insufficient fuel availability at the pump intake (16), such as low fuel tank level, sudden cornering, or grade parking. Pressurised return fuel fills the reservoir (30) until a predetermined overflow pressure is reached and an overflow valve opens (42) to allow fuel overage to flow into the fuel tank (14). When the fuel level in the tank (14) drops below a predetermined level, the fuel level sender arm (46) attached to the reservoir depresses a plunger (44) to shut the overflow valve (42). Pressure within the reservoir (30) then builds until exceeding the setpoint release pressure of a supply valve (40) located between the pump intake (16) and the reservoir (30), at which time the supply valve (40) opens to allow liquid fuel to flow from the reservoir (30) to the pump (12). The setpoint release pressure of the supply valve (40) exceeds that of the predetermined overflow pressure of the overflow valve (42).

    • An overfill preventing device (10) in an underground liquid storage tank (a) is disclosed. The device (10) is characterized in that a window (3) for extending outwardly or accommodating a float (8) is provided on the peripheral wall of a cylindrical sleeve (1), that the upper end (9) of a float (8) is pivotally attached to the cylindrical sleeve (1) at a position above the window (3), and that a closure valve (10) is mounted on the upper end of the float (8) to open or close the cylindrical sleeve (1) at a position above the window (3). Since the window (3) for extending the float (8) outwardly or accommodating the float (8) inwardly is mounted inside the cylindrical sleeve (1), the float (8) can be firmly stored. In the condition where the float (8) is extended outwarly from the cylindrical sleeve (1) after the installing of the device (10) of this invention, the window (3) is closed by a lid (4) and the lid (4) form forms a part of the cylindrical sleeve (1) so that the narrowing of the space within the cylindrical sleeve (1) neccessary for the liquid flow is minimized whereby the liquid is smoothly supplied into the underground liquid storage tank (a).

    • @ A flushing cistern includes a flushing device which is located in a liquid-containing cistern (10). The device includes a hollow tube (50) and a closure member (51) carried by the tube. The tube (50) can be moved in the cistern (10) between open and closed positions in which the closure member (51) is clear of, and seals the cistern outlet (40). A float (52) is mounted on the tube (50) to hold the tube in the open position while flushing takes place and which causes the tube to resume its closed position at the end of the flush. The device also includes a float arm (60) carrying a float (64). The float arm (60) is pivoted to a control arm (38) of the inlet valve (36) to the cistern (10), and there is a detent (54) on the tube (50) which engages the float arm (60) and pulls it downwardly when the flush is over, so operating the control arm (38) and opening the inlet valve (36) to admit further liquid to the cistern (10). When the cistern (10) has again filled up, the float arm (60) detaches itself from the detent (54), and permits the inlet valve (36) to close again.
