    • A guidance system for controlling the flight of a guided missile onto a target, comprising an optical sight and a tracker mounted with their optical axes approximately in alignment in a common housing which is pivotable for aiming the sight at a target. The housing also carries a missile firing button and a manually-operable joystick for generating primary direction control signals for controlling the missile. The tracker produces automatically secondary control signals representative of the displacement of the missile in flight from the axis of the tracker. Transmitter means is provided in a separate housing for transmitting both primary and secondary control signals simultaneously to a receiver in the missile so that the flight of the missile is controlled by the combined primary and secondary signals.

    • Apparatus (10) for simultaneously engaging a multiplicity of selected targets (V1-V7) to launch one or more missiles (T) at each target and acquire, track, and guide each missile to its respective target. A field of view (FOV) is scanned to detect one or more targets therewithin. A target selection system (34) is used to designate various of the targets at which to launch missiles. A plurality of missiles are then launched, and directed to each selected target. A plurality of sensors (58) detect radiation from each missile as it travels toward its respective target. An acquisition and tracking system (74) is used to track each missile and its target. The system includes a processor (80) for determining the position of each missile relative to its respective target, and a control module (82) responsive to the processor for generating and transmitting guidance signals to each missile to guide it to its target.

    • An optical fiber guided projectile for firing from a generally tubular launcher comprising a tubular casing, an extended length of optical fiber disposed in the casing for continuous streaming from the trailing end thereof, a portion of the fiber extending from the casing for operative connection to a controller, an axial groove in the casing surface for removably receiving a part of the extending fiber, tape securing the fiber part in the groove with force sufficient to withstand axial launch forces but insufficient to resist imposed radial forces, and a communication device providing two-way communication over the fiber. A controller is also provided in two-way communication with the projectile for receiving and processing target data from the projectile and for transmitting guidance data, including operator manual guidance, to the projectile.
