    • The invention relates to a magnetic coupling pump, with the motor-driven part of the magnetic coupling lying radially inward and the radially outward part of the coupling, together with the pump rotor, having a floating fit in the pumped fluid such that the rotating part of the floating bearing is also radially arranged over the outer magnets. The wall of the pump housing can itself be embodied as the stationary part of the floating bearing with the possibility of direct external access (lubrication, sensor mechanism) and an effective convectional cooling. Dry running on operational faults can be avoided by means of the floating bearing arranged far to the outside, as the damaging gas fraction collects in the radial interior of the pump and remaining traces of liquid are continuously driven outwards and thus contribute to bearing lubrication. By means of an additional annular barrier, the loss of residual fluid can be prevented. The disclosed novel floating bearing permits a large volume separating case which itself permits components of the roller bearings of the motor-driven magnetic coupling section so much installation space that the axial installation length of the complete pump can be significantly shortened.

    • A magnetically driven centrifugal pump includes a sealed housing enclosing a magnetically driven rotor on an axle of rotation contained within the housing, the axle being attached to the back inside wall of the housing and extending therefrom into the rotor, the rotor having impellers attached to the face thereof toward the front of the housing, the impellers defining radial fluid passages leading from the axial center of the front of the housing to the periphery of the housing and the rotor having radially oriented magnets in the back face thereof for coupling with similarly oriented magnets in an external magnetic drive, whereby the axial dimension of the rotor need be only the width of a radial magnet plus the axial projection of an impeller and the axial dimension of the sealed housing may be only slightly greater than the axial dimension of the rotor and may be substantially less than the radial diameter thereof. In operation, fluid enters an axial input port at the front of the housing and discharges from an output port at the periphery of the housing and the external magnetic drive magnetically couples with the rotor through the back wall of the housing. In a preferred embodiment, the impellers are radially extending ridges on the front face of the rotor and a disk-shaped plate attaches to and covers the impellers defining each radial passage between adjacent ridges, the face of the rotor and the covering plate.

    • A communication hole is bored through a partition member which divides an intake-side priming fluid chamber from a discharge-side priming fluid chamber, whereby the two chambers are connected. The communication hole serves to prevent, on a predetermined level, a backflow of a pump fluid due to siphonage caused on the intake side when pumping operation is stopped, thereby securing a priming fluid in a pump casing. A valve assembly including a valve member is disposed corresponding to the communication hole. The valve member, which is always urged to an open position, is moved to and held in a position where it is caused to close the communication hole by the action of the pump fluid flowing in a feeding direction during pumping operation. When the pump is stopped to cause the backflow of the fluid, the valve member is moved back to the open position by the urging action.
