    • A method of transferring fluent material transfers the material from a first pressure tank to a fluent material transfer destination by supplying compressed gas to the first tank through a compressor. The compressed gas is retained in the first tank for reuse. Additional fluent material is drawn into a second pressure tank and is transferred therefrom to the fluent material transfer destination by supplying the compressed gas from the first pressure tank to the second pressure tank through the compressor. The compressed gas is further retained in the second pressure tank transferring fluent material from the first pressure tank. As the compressed gas is emptied from each tank to the other tank, additional fluent material is drawn into that tank. The cycle can be repeated on a continuous basis to transfer large quantities of fluent material.

    • A remotely operable drum punch for puncturing a drum or container containing hazardous waste, chemicals, or acid consists of a drive which drives a punch head and self-admixing arms for securing the drum punch to the drum. The drive is remotely operable to drive both the self-affixing arms and the punch head so that the drum punch may be secured to the drum from afar. The punch head includes a collar, which may be movable, to form a seal with the top of the drum. The punch head also includes bores to allow the sampling, testing and exhausting of the drum's contents or to introduce agents, such as neutralizing or foaming or gelling agents, into the drum to neutralize or solidify the drum's contents. Inert gases can also be introduced into the drum.

    • A liquid material dispenser includes a housing formed with a reservoir for the liquid to be dispensed, an outlet through which the liquid is to be dispensed, and a connecting passageway between the reservoir and the outlet. A diaphgram is located in a cavity in the passageway such that one side of the diaphragm defines a pumping chamber, and the other side defines a control chamber. An electrolytic cell generates a gas to the control chamber according to the quantity of electrical current passed through the electrolyte, for driving the diaphragm through forward strokes to pump liquid to the outlet; and a slow-acting vent vents the gas from the control chamber to the atmosphere at a rate lower than that of generation of gas by the electrolytic cell, for driving the diaphragm through return strokes to refill the pumping chamber.

    • Apparatus is provided for transferring a liquid, particularly liquids, such as molten sulfur which are difficult to handle, from a liquid supply, such as a molten sulfur tank truck, to another location, such as a pug mill in which a sulfur/asphalt pavement material is blended. The apparatus comprises a relatively small transfer vessel, which is connected, through a shutoff valve, to the liquid for receiving a gravity flow of liquid therefrom, and an air compressor for pressurizing the transfer vessel through a pressurized air conduit. A check valve installed in the transfer vessel adjacent the liquid inlet of the vessel prevents the trasfer of liquid from the vessel back into the supply when the vessel is pressurized. An electrically-controlled valve in the pressurized air conduit enables an associated control unit to control the flow of pressurized air into the vessel. When the vessel is connected to the source and is unpressurized, liquid flows from the source into the vessel through the check valve; pressurization of the vessel by the compressor then closes the check valve and forces the liquid contained in the vessel out of the vessel and to the other location. An elevated loop in the pressurized air conduit prevents liquid from the liquid supply or the vessel from flowing into the compressor. A corresponding process is provided for transferring a liquid, in discrete amounts or "slugs," from a liquid supply to another location.

    • A liquid delivery system, particularly for liquids sensitive to water or in which no bubbles should be included, which permits dispensing the liquid directly from the container in which it was shipped and stored. The delivery system attaches directly to the container and has a breather tube communicating with air head space above the liquid. The breather tube can be opened and closed manually. The breather tube allows air or gas to enter the head space as liquid is dispensed from the container. In operation, the liquid delivery system is attached to the liquid container and the container and system are placed on an inversion device. The container is inverted in use.
