    • This invention relates to a composite board including: a core having upper and lower surfaces and at least one aperture extending therebetween, at least one upper reinforcing layer disposed on the upper surface of the core and at least one lower reinforcing layer disposed on the lower surface of the core, the upper and lower reinforcing layers each including at least one aperture extending therethrough, the apertures in the upper and lower reinforcing layers being in substantial alignment with each other and with the aperture or apertures in the core, at least one tie member passing through the substantially aligned apertures, each said tie member having a first end portion protruding through said aligned apertures from said upper reinforcing layer and a second end portion protruding through said aligned apertures from a said lower reinforcing layer, said first and second end portions being secured to a surface of said respective lyaers. A process for preparing the composite board and a skateboard deck formed from the composite board are also disclosed.

    • An in-line skate (10) has an upper shoe portion (40) for receiving a person's foot that is secured to an upper surface of an upper base (56). A lower base (14) has an upper surface (64) that is detachably secured by fasteners (72) to the lower surface (60) of the upper base. A frame (16) for mounting a plurality of wheels (20) is secured to the lower surface of the lower base. The lower base defines a plurality of grind apertures (82) laterally and medially adjacent either side of the frame. A plurality of wear pads (32, 36, 38) are received on the upper surface of the lower base, and include wear portions that project downwardly through the apertures below the lower surface of the lower base. A flange defined on each of the wear pads is captured between the lower base and the upper base when the bases are assembled together. An additional wear pad (34) is secured to the exterior of the base by a tongue and groove engagement. The wear pads provide wear-resistant, low friction surfaces on the underside of the base on which a skater may slide or "grind" along elongate surfaces such as curbs, ramps, and rails. The wear pads may be replaced when worn to prolong the life of the skate.

    • A device for limiting rotation of a wheel, such as a wheel on a skateboard, comprising a physical stop secured against one wheel of the skateboard. Multiple physical locks may be used, each secured against single wheel. The physical stop may comprise a block of resilient material placed in a semi-compressed state into the gap between the skateboard deck and the wheel such that the block exerts pressure on the wheel sufficient to prevent the wheel from freely rotating. Alternately, the physical stop may comprise a holder at least partially surrounding the wheel and at least one protrusion from the holder adjacent a rolling surface of the wheel, where the protrusion is capable of functioning as a chock and substantially preventing the wheel from rolling against a surface.
