    • The apparatus (10) for deployment of a therapeutic device (14) such as a micro-coil detachably mounts the therapeutic device (14) to a distal portion of a pusher member (12). In one embodiment, the therapeutic device (14) is detachably mounted to the distal portion of the pusher member (12) by a tubular collar (24) that can be heated by a heater such as an electrical resistance coil (26) to expand the collar (24) and release and deploy the therapeutic device (14). The apparatus (40) for deployment of a therapeutic device (44) such as a micro-coil may also provide for a pusher member (42) and a connector fiber (64) for securing the therapeutic device (44) to the pusher member (42). The connector fiber (64) passes through a heater (66) within the distal portion of the pusher member (42), for heating and breaking the connector fiber (64) to release the therapeutic device (44) when a desired placement of the therapeutic device (44) within the vasculature is achieved.

    • An introducer for retaining an implant (22) placed within an implant delivery device (20) having a pusher (26) for displacing the implant (22) includes a tube (24) and a clamp (30). The interior of the tube (24) defines a passage (36) for guiding the movement of the pusher (26). The clamp (30) is made of a shape memory material disposed in the passage (36) about the pusher (26). The clamp (30) is normally operative to grip the pusher (26) to hold it in position relative to the tube (24) and further operative in response to an elevated temperature to release the pusher (26) for movement relative to the tube (24). The clamp (30) may be formed integrally with the tube (24) and may comprise at least one crimp or an annular ring surrounding the tube (24). The tube is tapered to be narrower at its distal end and may be formed of a shaped memory polymer material.

    • The vasoocclusive apparatus can be used in a method of interventional therapy and vascular surgery by inserting the apparatus into a portion of a vasculature, for treatment of a body vessel such as an aneurysm in conjunction with a secondary vasoocclusive device to be placed within the vessel. The vasoocclusive apparatus includes a plurality of strut members connected together at a central hub that extend from a collapsed position to an expanded configuration to cross the neck of the aneurysm, dividing the neck into smaller openings, allowing the deployment of the secondary vasoocclusive device within the aneurysm but preventing migration of the secondary vasoocclusive device from the aneurysm. The strut members can be made from a twisted cable of strands of a superelastic material, such as a shape memory nickel titanium alloy, with at least one radiopaque strand. A shape memory collar is provided for detachably mounting the vasoocclusive apparatus to a pusher member and for detaching the vasoocclusive apparatus for deployment when a desired placement within an aneurysm to be treated and out of a parent vessel is achieved.
