    • A balanced field metal detector apparatus comprising a coil assembly including planar, generally rectangular loop configured multi-turn field and sensor coils disposed in partially overlapping minimum mutual inductive coupling relation and oriented so that the long dimension of the loops is skewed relative to the vertical in use of the apparatus. Employment of a pair of the detectors, one on each side of a pathway, with the respective coil assemblies skewed relative to the vertical oppositely to one another, enables detection of a metal object in the pathway by one or both of the detectors irrespective of the shape and orientation of the object, and by suitable processing of the sensor coil signals further enables determination of whether the object is located at the left, center or right side of the pathway.

    • A displacement adjusting system for a variable displacement pump which delivers in a single direction only utilizes a pair of laminar flow restrictions connected in series in a bleed circuit and operated mechanically by the displacement regulator of the pump to increase one restriction as the other is decreased in proportion to changes in pump displacement. The pressure level at the point between the two restrictors is applied against a variable spring bias on a pilot valve to control a servomotor acting on the pump displacement regulator. The control maintains a maximum on pump input torque under all load variations and this limit is adjustable through the pilot valve spring.

    • An angular position transducer wherein the stator comprises a generally cup-shaped housing of high permeability material the bottom thereof supporting diametrically opposed primary and secondary pole pieces and windings and the side walls thereof constituting a portion of the return path for magnetic flux; the rotor comprises a windingless shorted turn member including a ring or annulus of electrically conductive, non-magnetic material with a diametric shorting portion and adapted to overlie the open ends of the side walls of the housing. The radial spacing of the primary and secondary pole pieces is less than the internal radius of the rotor ring and the diametric shorting portion of the rotor at its null position symmetrically overlies the secondary overlying pole pieces. The magnetic flux return path is provided as an integral part of the rotor and comprises a further ring or annulus of high permeability material concentric with the conductive non-magnetic ring but having an internal diameter substantially less than that of the conductive ring so that it overlies both primary and secondary pole pieces. Alternatively, the rotor flux return path can be a complete disk. This configuration provides an axial running clearance only and thereby eliminates the precision machining normally required with stationary iron-to-iron air gaps. The construction is such that the output signal null position is insensitive to axial and radial translations sometimes unavoidable in the bearings supporting the rotor. The transducer is simple in construction and economical to manufacture using conventional fabrication techniques.

    • A bale relocator mechanism for engaging and repositioning selected bales on a bale wagon. The bale relocator mechanism of the present invention is disclosed in the form of two species, each species being adapted for employment within a bale wagon having a first receiving table adapted to receive bales and transfer the bales received to a rearwardly disposed transfer table where the bales are accumulated into a tier, at which point the transfer table functions to transfer each tier to a rearwardly disposed load bed to form a stack of side-by-side tiers thereon. The first species comprises a hydraulically powered finger structure pivotally mounted about a longitudinally extending axis beneath the transfer table of the bale wagon and operative to move through an opening therein for engaging and laterally repositioning an overlying bale. A fence structure is situated along one side of said transfer table in spaced apart relationship to said finger structure to limit the lateral movement of the bale being repositioned. The second species comprises a mechanically actuated finger structure that is associated with the receiving table of the bale wagon. The finger structure of the second species is carried by a laterally extending connecting rod, the fingers of the finger structure being pivotally mounted thereon and aligned for engagement with a series of cams. The connecting rod is moved laterally, causing said fingers to contact said cams and move upwardly engaging and repositioning a bale thereover, by a bell crank engaging a trap door as said receiving table is pivoted upwardly to deposit bales thereon on said transfer table. As with the first species, a fence structure is provided along one side of said transfer table to maintain the outer ends of the bales repositioned within limits.

    • A feeding mechanism that sweeps crops along a feed chamber into a bale case of the baler is of the double bar type with a straight tubular feed finger supporting member and a guide member in reciprocal supporting relation thereto. Rollers on the sides of the supporting member are in constant longitudinal spaced relation and ride in transversely spaced U-shaped tracks on opposite sides of the guide member. The supporting member is connected to an elliptical chain drive located in a drive housing above the feed chamber at the bale case end. The guide member is connected to a rotating crank at the opposite end of the drive housing. The drives actuate the members to move the feed fingers along the feed chamber in a feed stroke for sweeping crops into the bale case and return the feed fingers through the drive housing in a generally parallel relation to the feed chamber.
