    • A system and method for treating a stenosis or blockage in a bodily fluid passageway is described. The system includes a catheter and a controller for generating radio frequency energy along a pair of output lines, a monitoring circuit for monitoring the phase of the radio frequency energy along the output lines, and an impedance matching circuit for adjusting the output impedance of the generator so that it equals that of a load, e.g., the patient. The catheter includes a catheter body which is insertable into the bodily passageway and operatively connected to the controller. A lumen in the catheter body defines an opening and a stainless steel, metallic-plated mandril is disposed within the lumen so that a terminal end thereof extends through the opening and into the bodily passageway. An internal electrode is joined to the terminal end of the mandril, with the other end of the mandril operatively connected to one of the output lines for receiving the radio frequency energy produced by the generator and delivering such energy to the terminal end and the internal electrode. An external electrode in the form of a grounding pad is located externally of a patient so that when the radio frequency energy is delivered via the mandril to the internal electrode, the same causes or enables the capacitative heating of a stenosis. The method of the present invention relates to finding the most optimal position for placement of the catheter so that optimal power may be delivered to the stenosis.

    • In a turbocharger equipped with a motor/generator, the motor/generator gradually decreases its generator output without shifting abruptly from generation mode to motor mode when a vehicle starts accelerating during cruising at a constant speed or runs along an upward slope, thus preventing abrupt increases in the loading on an engine. A control system for a motor/generator equipped turbocharger which is disposed across an exhaust conduit of an engine and includes a rotating shaft thereof on which a motor/generator is mounted is provided having a controller for, when the motor/generator is actuated as a motor, feeding the motor/generator with a supply of power from a battery, and when the motor/generator is actuated as a generator, converting an alternating current, high voltage form for charging the battery and also to a three-phase alternating current form for driving as a motor an alternator which is driven as a generator by the engine, an engine revolution sensor, an accelerator opening sensor, and an engine boost pressure sensor. More specifically, the control system comprises a calculating device for calculating a target boost pressure from the engine revolution sensor and the accelerator opening sensor, a first judging device for determining that the action of the engine is an acceleration mode when a difference between the target boost pressure and an actual boost pressure is smaller than a first predetermined value, and a device for decreasing the generator output of the motor/generator when the motor/generator is actuated as the generator during the acceleration mode judged by the first judging device.

    • Disclosed is a heated balloon catheter in use for effectively heating of the constricted zone of blood vessels deep thereinto, performing a proper temperature measurement, having further advantage of easy fabrication thereof.A 2 to 20 MHz radio frequency generator is connnected to heating electrode within a balloon and opposite electrode external of a patient respectively. A thermocouple mounted within the balloon is connected to an external temperature controller across paired conductors. A passive filter and an active filter are provided to eliminate said R.F. noise from said conductors. From R.F. generator is supplied R.F. energy to allow the capacitive current to flow through the patient's body via the electrodes, whereby a stenosis can be heated deep thereinto by capacitive heating. From the thermocouple is output the D.C. thermoelectric potential corresponding to the temperature to the temperature controller, of which the siganals are purified by said filters. Further disclosed are catheters including two conductor wires, together with one wire and no wire structrues respectively.
