    • A method for transmitting a signal from a base station transceiver system (BTS) to a base station controller (BSC) when there is no data transmitted from a mobile station while in discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode, in a mobile communication system. Upon detection of the discontinuous transmission mode, it is determined what type of frame was last transmitted from the mobile station, and the present power control information is set according to the type of frame. Thereafter, the base station transceiver system transmits a reverse message including the present power control information to the base station controller over a dedicated control channel. If there is data being transmitted between the mobile station and the base station transceiver system at the time where the discontinuous transmission mode is detected, the previous power control information is set to the present power control information.

    • A method and system are provided for selecting a vocoder for processing a voice signal upon generation of the voice signal in a mobile communication system including a media gateway and a base station controller, both of which use a packet-based transmission technique and have an independent vocoder, and a mobile switching center (MSC) emulator for controlling the media gateway. In the method and system, the base station controller transmits a vocoder selection-related information set based on a service option requested by a mobile station to the MSC emulator. The MSC emulator selects a vocoder to be used from a vocoder in the base station controller and a vocoder in the media gateway according to the received vocoder selection-related information and whether any vocoder resource is available in the media gateway.

    • A system and method for de-registering a Broadcast/Multicast Service (BCMCS) in a high-rate packet data system including an access network (AN) for performing radio communication with an access terminal (AT), a packet control function (PCF) for processing packet data communication, and a packet data service node (PDSN) connected to a BCMCS contents server (CS) via a packet communication network is provided. In the system and method, the access network receives a de-registration message for a release request of a BCMCS service from the access terminal. The access network transmits a BCMCS release message including BCMCS information with a release request, to the packet control function. The packet control function transmits a BCMCS registration request message including the BCMCS information to the packet data service node. The packet data service node performs a release and accounting process on a corresponding BCMCS service based on the BCMCS information.

    • Disclosed is a method for transmitting a signal from a base station transceiver system (BTS) to a base station controller (BSC) when there is no data transmitted from a mobile station while in discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode, in a mobile communication system. The mobile communication system includes a mobile station for transmitting and receiving data in a predetermined period, a base station transceiver system and a base station controller for controlling the base station transceiver system. Upon detection of the discontinuous transmission mode, it is determined what type of frame was last transmitted from the mobile station, and the present power control information is set according to the type of frame. If it is a null frame, the base station transceiver system sets previous power control information that the base station transceiver system has used for power control of the mobile station before detection of discontinuous transmission mode, to present power control information. Thereafter, the base station transceiver system transmits a reverse message including the present power control information to the base station controller over a dedicated control channel. If there is data being transmitted between the mobile station and the base station transceiver system at the time where the discontinuous transmission mode is detected, the previous power control information is set to the present power control information.

    • Methods of and apparatus to perform a drawdown of a formation fluid in a downhole environment are disclosed. An example method includes contacting a borehole wall with a fluid communication device of a formation testing tool and performing a first type of drawdown to draw fluid into the fluid communication device. The method also includes detecting a breach of a mudcake on the borehole wall during performance of the first type of drawdown and performing a second type of drawdown to draw fluid into the sample probe in response to detecting the breach of the mudcake. The second type of drawdown is different than the first type of drawdown. Furthermore, the example method includes confirming the breach of the mudcake on the borehole wall during performance of the second type of drawdown.
