    • A base station capable of communicating with a plurality of subscriber stations is configured to allocate a plurality of resource units to at least one subscriber station.     • A system and method for relaying communications in a wireless communication network. A relay station capable of relaying wireless communications includes a plurality of receiver antennas and a plurality of transmitter antennas. The plurality of receiver antennas is operable to receive, in a first time interval, a first communication from a base station and a second communication from a subscriber station. The plurality of transmitter antennas is operable transmit a third communication to the base station and the subscriber station in a second time interval. The relay station also includes a network encoder. The network encoder is configured to generate a combined symbol constellation. The combined symbol constellation is generated by combining a first symbol constellation transmitted in said first communication with a second symbol constellation transmitted in said second communication. Further, the third communication comprises said combined symbol constellation.

    • Methods and apparatus for generating cyclic redundancy checks (CRCs). In one aspect of the present invention, a plurality of cyclic redundancy checks are calculated based upon a plurality of bits by using a selected cyclic redundancy check generator polynomial, at least one cyclic redundancy check is calculated based upon a first subset of the plurality of bits with a certain bit ordering, and at least another cyclic redundancy check is calculated based upon a second subset of the plurality of bits with a different bit ordering. The second subset of bits may overlap with the first subset of bits. In another aspect, a plurality of cyclic redundancy checks are calculated based upon a plurality of bits by using a plurality of different cyclic redundancy check generator polynomials. A first cyclic redundancy check generator polynomial is used for calculating a first cyclic redundancy check based upon a first plurality of bits, and a second cyclic redundancy check generator polynomial is used for calculating a second cyclic redundancy check based upon a second plurality of bits.

The method including the steps of generating at least one resource tree, mapping a plurality of resource elements into respective leaf nodes in the at least one resource tree according to a certain mapping scheme, with each node in the at least one resource tree representing a resource allocation scheme for data transmission, and transmitting data using a resource allocation scheme selected from among the plurality of resource allocation schemes represented by respective nodes in the at least one resource tree. In response to reception of the data, a receiver decodes the data by recursively applying the plurality of resource allocation schemes represented by respective nodes in the at least one resource tree until the data is decoded.
