    • A system and method permits a user to observe the Quality of Service (QoS) of Web services and allows dynamic selection based on the user's preference. The system is built on QoS observation meta-model and comprises a QoS observation manager, service criteria generator, service repository, evaluation manager and service invocation manager. The QoS observation manager allows users to define observation model and deploy to the service criteria generator. The service criteria generator computes the QoS criteria values of services by subscribing events which include user feedback events and service execution events, based on deployed observation model. The service repository provides the persistence storage for QoS criteria value. The evaluation manager allows users to specify selection preferences and select services based on QoS ranking. The service invocation manger invokes Web services and publishes events according to the QoS of Web services. The system enables users to observe the QoS of Web service and select Web service based on QoS ranking that reflects the user's selection preference.

    • A model-driven and QoS-aware infrastructure facilitates the scalable composition of Web services in highly dynamic environments. An exception management framework supports two modes of exception management for business processes, providing a novel policy-driven approach to exception management implemented in the system infrastructure. Exception management is implemented in the system infrastructure, with exception handling policies supplied by individual business processes. Using the exception management framework, developers define exception policies in a declarative manner. Before a business process is executed, the service composition middleware integrates the exception policies with normal business logic to generate a complete process schema. This policy driven-approach can significantly reduce the development time of business processes through its separation of the development of the business logic and the exception handling policies.

    • A Web browser is augmented with collaborative features to support community aware browsing sessions. The augmentation provided includes a data mining plug-in for the browser to establish collaborative context based on Uniform Resource Locator (URL) meta data keywords, or mined topics, and a collaboration co-browser (explorer bar) which displays a collaboration space, called CollabSpace, corresponding to the document that is displayed in the main browser. With this augmented browser, a user can perform various collaboration functions from the collaboration explorer bar, including viewing the online status of members of the CollabSpace, communicate with members of the CollabSpace via electronic mail (e-mail), instant messaging or discussion threads, and register as a member of the CollabSpace. CollabSpaces can be established and associated with one or more Web documents, meta data keywords or topics.

    • There is provided a system and method for representing a data subset of server data. According to the method, a folder definition is generated for the data subset. The generation of the folder definition includes the substeps of identifying portions of the server data to be included in the data subset, generating declarations of value constraints and usage constraints with respect to at least some of the data of the data subset, and generating parameters to be supplied or selected by a user of a client device for further identifying the portions of the server data to be included in the data subset. The declarations are used for enforcing the value constraints and the usage constraints in subsequent renderings of the data subset on a client device. A folder instance is then generated based on the folder definition and parameters provided by a user of a client device or by default. The provided parameters (user provided or default) correspond to the generated parameters. The generation of the folder instance includes the substeps of generating the data subset from the identified portions of the server data and the parameters, and including the declarations of value constraints and usage constraints in the folder instance with the data subset.
