The primary and secondary pilot channels are used for decoding the data. A ratio of power levels of the primary and secondary pilot channels is based on at least one of the data rate and payload size of the data channel. The power level of the primary pilot channel is maintained independent of at least one of data rate and payload size of the data channel. The power level of the secondary pilot channel may be adjusted based on at least one of data rate and payload size of the data channel.

摘要： Method and apparatus for high rate code-division multiple access wireless communication is described. Each of a channel encoded data is modulated by an associated code having a small number of pseudo-noise spreading chips per orthogonal waveform period, thus producing a set of streams of modulated symbols. Each of the set of streams of modulated symbols is then gain adjusted, and combined to yield two streams of combined symbols. The combination is the set of streams is carried out to reduce a peak-to-average ratio of the transmission. The resulting two combined symbol streams are modulated by a complex multiplyer using a user long code and a pseudorandom spreading code (PN code) and upconverted for transmission.

摘要： Methods and apparatus are presented for improving the feedback of channel information to a serving base station, which allows a reduction in the reverse link load while allowing the base station to improve the forward link data throughput. Over a channel quality indicator channel, three subchannels are generated; the re-synch subchannel, the differential feedback subchannel, and the transition indicator subchannel. The information carried on each subchannel can be used separately or together by a base station to selectively update internal registers storing channel conditions. The channel conditions are used to determine transmission formats, power levels, and data rates of forward link transmissions.

The distribution module routes one data bit to each antenna such that no data bit is routed to the same antenna as the previous data bit. The switching module controls the distribution module to skip an antenna in the routing process once each time a predefined number of data bits have been routed. Alternatively, the switching module may control the distribution module to repeat an antenna in the routing process once each time a predefined number of data bits have been routed. The transmitter antennas may, in the alternative, be different carrier frequency bands.

In a described high rate CDMA wireless system, a transmitter forms a set of individually gain adjusted subscriber channels using a set of orthogonal subchannel codes having a small number of PN spreading chips per orthogonal waveform period. An illustrative high rate CDMA wireless system uses Walsh codes, each having a duration of fewer than sixty-four chips per orthogonal waveform period. A receiver demodulates each of the subscriber channels using the same orthogonal subchannel codes.
