    • In an image recording apparatus, a halftone screen having its light transmittance varying regularly is arranged on an optical path extending between a light source and a photo-sensitive recording medium. The halftone screen is movable along the optical path between an operative position where a screening effect of the halftone screen is validated and an inoperative position where the screening effect of the halftone screen is invalidated. A controller is provided for controlling the position of the halftone screen in such a manner that when an image on an original is of a continuous tone, the halftone screen is moved to the operative position, while when the image on the original is of a dot tone, the halftone screen is moved to the inoperative position.

    • In a color picture image recording apparatus using a photosensitive and pressure-sensitive recording sheet having on its surface pressure rupturable microcapsules each containing a photosensitive material and a chromogenic material selected from cyan, magenta and yellow, and a mechanical strength of the microcapsule varies when exposed, a color tone of a reproduced picture image can easily be adjusted by the provision of a filter unit. The filter unit is used in conjunction with a radiation unit which radiates onto the photosensitive and pressure-sensitive recording sheet a light carrying a color image of an original to form a latent image, and includes filters each selectively passing a light of a particular wavelength which causes to vary the mechanical strength of one of the cyan-, magneta-and yellow-containing microcapsules. Each of the filters is movably disposed on a light path so as to change its filtering characteristic, whereby when the photosensitive and pressure-sensitive recording sheet is pressure-developed, the color tone of the reproduced color image can be adjusted.

    • A printer, including a first and a second feed mechanism supported by a carriage for feeding a print ribbon and an erase ribbon, respectively, at least one rotatable shaft supported by the reciprocating carriage rotatably in opposite directions, a one-way clutch for transmitting the shaft rotation in one of the opposite directions to the first feed mechanism, and inhibiting transmission of the rotation in the other direction, and a control mechanism for inhibiting transmission of the shaft rotation to the second feed mechanism when the printer is in a printing mode, and transmitting the shaft rotation to the second ribbon mechanism when the printer is in a correction mode, whereby the carriage reciprocation activates the first and second feed mechanisms. A converter may be provided for converting the shaft rotation into movements of a ribbon lift to shift the erase ribbon between an erasing and an inoperative position. The rotation control mechanism inhibits transmission of the shaft rotation to the converter while in the printing mode, but transmits the rotation to the converter while in the correction mode. Thus, the carriage reciprocation also cause the shifting movements of the erase ribbon.

    • A stepping motor having a plurality of phase windings and a rotor which is driven toward a desired position with selective variations of the lead interval between the energized phase windings and the current rotational position of the rotor. Two of the phase windings are alternately selected in a predetermined sequence for strongly accelerating or decelerating the rotor, and only one of the phase windings is energized while the rotor is rotated at a constant speed or is held at any rest position. Thus, the rotor is driven to the desired position in a short time and a substantial amount of power which is supplied to the phase windings for driving the rotor is saved.
