The high-power energy beam irradiates the recording medium in such a manner that a period of irradiation for pulses subsequent to the leading pulse is in a range of from 0.5T to 2.5T. The result is that it is possible to facilitate forming/erasing amorphous marks even in a phase-change recording medium devoid of a reflective layer, without any risk of narrowing the range of effective crystallization speeds.

    • One page is segmented into a plurality of bands (segments), and dot image data is generated on a per band basis from given information (graphic object). High-speed printing with a small-sized memory is achieved by allowing one band to be converted into dot image data and dot image data for another band to be transmitted to a printer, concurrently in parallel. When the conversion of a band to dot image data needs more time than is available for printing one band, or when the data quantity of object per page exceeds an allocated memory area, an object corresponding to a degraded image data is generated, and then the degraded image data is generated on a per band basis based on the resulting object.

    • An allocating method is executed by a computer. The allocating method includes transmitting to any one given apparatus among multiple apparatuses capable of executing an identical process and respectively having a different processing performance, a command for the process; duplicating the command and transmitting resulting duplicated commands to an apparatus group that is not executing the process and among the apparatuses; measuring for the given apparatus and each apparatus of the apparatus group, a utilization rate acquired when the command is executed; identifying based on the utilization rate for the given apparatus, an apparatus to be switched among the apparatus group; and switching a transmission destination of the command, from the given apparatus to the apparatus to be switched.
