    • First and second laser beam sources generate first and second laser beams of different wavelengths, respectively. A first collimating lens diverges the first laser beam at a predetermined angle so as to permit a fracture surface aberration of the first laser beam to fall below a predetermined value when the first laser beam generated from the first laser beam source is collected on the signal layer of the optical disk. A light receiving lens collects the laser beam reflected from the signal layer of the optical disk on a photo diode in the form of an optical spot of a predetermined size. A holographic lens has a pattern by which the first laser beam is converted into parallel rays so that the size of a spot of the first laser beam becomes identical with the size of a spot of the second laser beam as projected on the detecting section. The pattern of the holographic lens has a concentric annular concave-convex portion in which a plurality of annular prominences and depressions are arranged, and the depression and the prominence have a width which is gradually decreased from a center toward a most outer circumference of the concentric annular concave-convex portion. Further, an inner surface of each prominence has a step-like shape formed with at least one step. Preferably, the number of the step ranges from three to five. Accordingly, diameters of the optical spots of the two laser beams of different wavelengths are almost identical when the laser beams are transmitted through the holographic lens so that the optical spots are formed on the photo diode. As a result, with one objective lens and photo diode, information of two types of optical disks for laser beams of different wave lengths can be reproduced.

    • A disk cartridge includes a case which contains a disk, and a shutter which opens/closes at least one opening formed in the case. The shutter is configured to be foldable around upper and lower surfaces of the case, and slides on the upper and lower surfaces of the case to open/close the opening. Since the shutter opens/closes the opening while being folded around the upper and lower surfaces of the case, a movable distance of the shutter for opening/closing the opening can be fully accommodated even though the size of the disk cartridge is reduced. In addition, applying the configuration of the shutter to a double-sided disk cartridge prevents an inflow of dust from entering into the double-sided disk cartridge since the shutter closes an opening, which is not in use, during a recording/reproducing operation.

    • An optical pickup is compatible with at least two types of optical recording media each using light beams having different wavelengths from one another and which are used for recording and reproducing information. The optical pickup includes a first laser light source for emitting a first light beam having a relatively long wavelength, and a second laser light source for emitting a second light beam having a relatively short wavelength. A beam splitting plate transmits the first light beam and reflects the second light beam toward a collimator. The collimator collimates the light beam incident from the beam splitting plate to transmit the collimated light beam into an objective lens. The objective lens is designed so that the second light beam is focused on the information recording surface of a second optical recording medium whose information recording surface is closer to the objective lens than the information recording surface of the first optical recording medium, to form an optical spot optimized to the second optical recording medium. The optical distance from the first laser light source to the information recording surface of a first optical recording medium whose information recording surface is relatively farther from the objective lens, is shorter than the optical distance from the second laser light source to the information recording surface of the second optical recording medium so that spherical aberration occurring when the first light beam is used is removed. An aberration correction plate is located on an optical path between the first laser light source and the beam splitting plate, and corrects an optical aberration occurring when the beam splitting plate is used.
