    • A method and storage system for increasing an amount of memory in a queuing area on the storage system. The storage system includes first and second storage subsystems connected to each other via a path. A primary volume in the first storage subsystem and a remote secondary volume in the second storage subsystem are mirrored and operated in the asynchronous mode. A queuing area having memory is provided in the second storage subsystem for temporarily storing data transferred to the second storage subsystem from the first storage subsystem in response to a write input/output (I/O) issued by a host to write data in the primary volume. Data temporarily stored in the memory is retrieved and stored in the remote secondary volume. An unused area of the queuing area is monitored and the memory increased if the unused area becomes less than a predetermined amount.

    • This invention relates to a disk array controller. There has been demand for a large scale memory device system operable without interruption. Further, in order to cope with the recent trend toward open systems, scalability of performance and capacity in such systems is needed.Conventionally, internal buses such as ones which connect the channel interface section to the shared memory section, and the disk interface section to the shared memory section, have been mounted on one platter, and the channel interface and other packages have been mounted thereon. If the internal buses have failed, the operation of the whole system must be stopped. There has been another problem that the performance of the internal buses is fixed.A disk array controller according to this invention comprises an interface platter on which a channel interface section and a disk interface section are mounted, a memory platter on which a shared memory section is mounted, and a cable which connects the interface platter to the memory platter in order to solve the above problems.

    • A method and apparatus for performing data migration in storage systems implementing the remote copy function and virtualizing existing storage devices in a new storage system after migrating the existing storage devices. According to the invention when a new storage system is connected to an old storage system destined for replacement, and prior to starting data migration, remote copy configuration information from the old storage system is migrated to the new storage system. This allows either the new storage system or the old storage system, depending on configuration, to maintain an operational remote copy function with a remote storage system during the data migration. Thereafter, data is migrated from the old storage system as a virtual volume to the new storage system while data is being transferred between the new storage system and the remote storage system in accordance with the remote copy configuration information.
