    • A method for modifying tissue in a patient may involve one or more of the following steps: advancing at least a distal portion of at least one elongate, at least partially flexible tissue modification device into a patient and between one or more target tissues and one or more non-target tissues; positioning at least one tissue modifying member of the tissue modification device adjacent the target tissue such that the tissue modifying member(s) face the target tissue and do not face the non-target tissue; applying an anchoring force to the tissue modification device at or near the distal portion or a proximal portion of the device; applying a tensioning force to the tissue modification device at or near an opposite end of the device relative to the end to which anchoring force is applied, while maintaining the anchoring force, to urge the tissue modifying member(s) against the target tissue; and modifying the target tissue, using the tissue modifying member(s), while preventing the tissue modifying member(s) from extending significantly beyond the target tissue toward the proximal or distal portion of the tissue modification device during tissue modification.

    • Apparatus and methods for transgastric tissue manipulation are described herein. Procedures are performed transgastrically through a trocar or insert, e.g., to create tissue plications and approximating those plications towards one another for accomplishing gastroplasty procedures. The trocar is positioned through the abdominal wall of the patient and into the stomach. A multi-lumen insertion tool is positioned within the trocar and comprises one or several channels, e.g., two, three, or more channels as practicable, through the single insertion tool. Each of the channels is aligned and individually sealable with a reversible seal which allows for insertion or removal of a tool therethrough without comprising sealing of the entire trocar or port. A proximal section of the shafts comprise a flexible section to allow for the flexing of each respective control handle away from one another such that the surgeon can manipulate the tools without interference between the handles.

    • An apparatus for detecting leaks in a fluid-filled device used to treat a patient's tissue includes an catheter having an expandable device defining a fluid reservoir about the distal end of the catheter. An internal electrode is in electrical contact with a conductive fluid within the fluid reservoir. A grounding electrode is outside of the fluid reservoir, in electrical contact with the patient's tissue. Voltage is supplied to the internal electrode and the grounding electrode. Where a leak occurs in the expandable device, conductive fluid will contact the patient's tissue, thus creating an electrical current path between the internal electrode and the grounding electrode. This so-called "leak current" is used to generate a leak alarm signal.
