    • A method for transmitting system information bit streams of one or more base stations in a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes: identifying network-entry-related bit streams and non-network-entry-related bit streams from the system information bit streams, where the network-entry-related bit streams carry essential system information for a terminal to access a network through at least one of the base stations; modulating the network-entry-related bit streams according to a first set of modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) and modulating the non-network-entry-related bit streams according to a second set of MCSs; and transmitting the system information bit streams with different frequencies, where the network-entry-related bit streams are periodically transmitted according to a first predetermined period.

    • A power control method to mitigate in-device coexistence (IDC) interference is provided. A wireless communication device (UE) is equipped with a first LTE radio module and a second co-located WiFi/BT/GSNN radio module. Upon detecting coexistence or IDC interference, the UE applies power control method to mitigate the interference. In a first embodiment, the LTE radio module adjusts its power parameters locally without informing the serving eNB. In a second embodiment, the LTE radio module adjusts its power parameters and implicit informs the eNB through existing PHR reporting. In a third embodiment, the LTE radio module changes its power or power class and explicitly informs the eNB through UE capability or new RRC message or MAC CE. Power control can be used as a low cost and lightweight solution before applying other heavyweight solutions that either require more resource or control overhead, or have higher impact on throughput.

    • A method of multi-set RRC signaling for ap-SRS configuration is provided to enhance ap-SRS flexibility. An eNB transmits a plurality of sets of UE-specific SRS parameters to a UE via upper layer messaging in a multi-carrier wireless communication system. The eNB also determines triggering information of a selected set of UE-specific SRS parameters and an indicated carrier for the UE. The eNB then transmits an uplink or downlink grant over a primary carrier, the grant comprises triggering information for the UE to send an ap-SRS over the indicated carrier using the selected set of UE-specific SRS parameters. In one embodiment of joint signaling, the plurality of sets of UE-specific SRS parameters are signaled together in a single RRC transmission. In another embodiment of separate signaling, each set of UE-specific SRS parameters is signaled independently.

    • Network-assisted solutions are provided to maintain MBMS service continuity, to provide efficient localized MBMS service, and to achieve intelligent MBMS service management. In a first embodiment, a source eNB acquires MBMS information of neighbor cells and acquires MBMS reception/interest status information of a UE. Based on the acquired information, the source eNB makes handover decision for the UE to handover to a selected target cell and maintain MBMS service continuity. In a second embodiment, location information of a localized MBMS service is provided to a UE. Based on the location information, the UE is able to receive the localized MBMS service with minimum power consumption. In a third embodiment, an MBMS counting procedure is provided for an eNB to count the number of UEs that are receiving or are interested in MBMS service(s). Based on the counting result, the MBMS service(s) can be enabled or disabled accordingly.

Novel power headroom reporting (PHR) format and trigger are also provided. For DL-UL linking, various linking types are created based on whether there is carrier indicator field (CIF) in DL grant or UL grant. The various linking types are used in different applications to improve scheduling flexibility and load balancing.

    • A method of power control message indexing is provided in a wireless Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) network. A base station configures fast feedback channels (FFBCHs) and mobile stations report downlink channel information via the configured FFBCHs. Based on the received channel information, the base station estimates uplink channel quality and detects any channel variation. In response to uplink channel variation, the base station delivers power offsets to adjust the transmit power levels of the mobile stations. In one advantageous aspect, the power control commands for mobile stations are aggregated and the indexing scheme of the power control commands is implicitly based on the configured FFBCHs. For example, if a FFBCH is located at a first location in an uplink frame, then a following power control command in response to the FFBCH is located at a second location in a downlink frame, the second location is located after the first location with a predefined fixed delay time.

    • A network-based positioning mechanism is proposed. A serving BS first allocates radio resource to a target UE for network-based positioning in a wireless communication system. The target UE then transmits a positioning reference signal (PRS) to the serving BS and a plurality of cooperative BSs at the same time instant. All the cooperative BSs then conduct PRS detection and TOA measurements. Finally, the serving BS conducts positioning estimation based on the TOA measurement results. In one novel aspect, only one PRS transmission is required in one positioning opportunity for one positioning result. Candidates of PRS are selected with respect to different scenarios and allocated in a PRS resource region. Multiple positioning opportunities and multiple reference signals may be multiplexed over time, frequency or code domain in the PRS resource region. In one embodiment, the PRS is configured in such a way that both radio resource consumption and interference is minimized.

    • A cell reselection method and system using an active measurement set in a mobile communication, which determines whether the user equipment enters in a power-saving mode based on the signal strength and strength variability of a serving cell and the mobile feature of a user equipment. In the power-saving mode, in accordance with the signal strength of neighboring cells on the serving cell, an active measurement set is formed with cells that are selected from the neighboring cells broadcasted by a WCDMA system and have stronger signals. The user equipment only requires measuring the cells in the active measurement set. Thus, since the cell number of the active measurement set is smaller than that defined by the WCDMA system, the number of neighboring cells required to be measured is reduced, so as to reduce the power dissipation and increase the idle time on the user equipment.
