    • PURPOSE: To cast a cast slab having uniform surface characteristic by measuring molten metal surface variating quantity in a mold at plural positions, controlling the current conducted to electromagnetic coils according to these deformed quantities and restraining the distance of the molten metal surface. CONSTITUTION: One pair of eddy current sensors 7a, 7b are symmetrically arranged at the upper part separated by the distance (y) from the molten steel (s) surface in the mold 1. The eddy current sensors are worked through an electric source 8 and the molten steel variating quantity at the measuring point on the molten steel surface in the mold is measured at the setting timing through a timer 9. The measured informations h1 , h2 of the molten steel surface variating quantity from the eddy current sensors 7a, 7b are simultaneously transmitted to a comparing part 10 and the difference Δh of the molten steel surface variating quantity at the point is obtd. and the constant treatment is executed with a multiplier 11 and the kΔh is outputted to a comparator 12. The setting value and the kΔh are compared with this comparator 12. In the case the kΔh exceeds the permissible range, the change-over command signal of the conducting current is transmitted to an electric source control device to reduce the conducting current from the electric source 5.

    • PURPOSE: To restrain the disturbance of molten metal surface at the same time of pinching the molten metal in a mold and to obtain the uniform surface characteristic by providing two sets of electromagnetic coils in parallel at the outside of a fixed mold pouring and solidying the molten metal and conducting the electric current from two sets of small capacity electric sources in a low cost to these two sets of electromagnetic coils, respectively. CONSTITUTION: A current control device 7 commands a conducting current condition to the electric sources 5a, 5b according to the current conducting condition set to a setter 8. In the setter 8, the combination of current waveform of conducting current, conducting current, conducting time, these changing over conditions, etc., to the electromagnetic coils 3a, 3b from two electric sources 5a, 5b are set, and the electric current conduction is continuously executed to the electromagnetic coils 3a, 3b from the electric sources 5a, 5b. In this way, the molten metal in the mold is pinched by combining the current waveform of the conducting current from two small capacity electric source and conducting the electric current and also, the disturbance of the meniscus is restrained and the cast slab having good surface characteristic can be cast.

    • PURPOSE: To restrain the concentration of electromagnetic force at the corner part of a mold, to uniformize the electromagnetic force and to cast a cast slab having sufficiently uniform surface characteristic by constituting the corner part and the neighbor part of the mold with a material having electric resistant rate lower than a material constituting the other part. CONSTITUTION: The corner part 1c of the copper plate 1a forming the mold 1 is formed with the material having low electric resistant rate and the other part 1b is formed with the material having the electric resistant rate larger than the material forming this corner part 1c. Therefore, the attenuation of magnetic density at the corner part 1c is made relatively large to relax the concentration of the electromagnetic force to the corner part 1c. At this time, the rage constituted of the material having low electric resistant ratio is made to be the range within 50mm from the corner part 1c of the mold. Further, in the case of constituting the mold 1 with plural materials, in order to obtain the uniformizing effect of the sufficient magnetic flux without causing the spark, the electric resistant rate in the range of 50mm from the corner part 1c is made to be 0.1-0.7 times of the electric resistant rate at the other range.
