    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-treated metallic material which does not include harmful hexavalent chromium, has high corrosion resistance, and has adequate solvent resistance and workability.
      SOLUTION: The surface-treated metallic material is made by applying a treatment liquid comprising a water-soluble thermosetting resin, a cross-linking agent, and a polyphenol compound, on a metallic material. Preferably, the water-soluble thermosetting resin is selected among a polyester resin, an epoxy resin, and a urethane resin; the cross-linking agent is selected from an amino resin and isocyanate; and the polyphenol compound is tannic acid, and is contained in an amount of 0.1 mass% or more but 50 mass% or less with respect to the total solid content. The surface-treated steel sheet employed for the metallic material is preferably a galvanized steel sheet. The treated film preferably includes, with respect to the total solid content, silicon oxide of 1 mass% or more but 40 mass% or less, an organic-Si-based compound and/or an organic-Ti-based compound of 0.1 mass% or more but 30 mass% or less, and a solid lubricant of 1 mass% or more but 40 mass% or less.

      SOLUTION: The surface treating metal has a coating layer of one or more layers on at least part of the metal surface. The coating layer is formed of a treatment liquid containing one or more kinds of a predetermined alkoxysilane or its hydrolysate as the main component and particles having photocatalytic activity, and has an inorganic-organic composite film at least as the uppermost surface layer. The inorganic-organic composite film contains a siloxane bond as the principal bond of a main skeleton, and at least one organic group selected from the group consisting of a 1-12C alkyl group, an aryl group, a carboxyl group, an amino group, and a hydroxyl group, and also contains only particles having photocatalytic activity. The content of the particles having photocatalytic activity is 50-95% in a volume ratio based on the inorganic-organic composite film.
