    • Communication efficiency may be enhanced by using compressed headers. In an example embodiment, a method is performed by a transmitting device to reduce header size. A mapping is created between a logical channel identifier and a compressed logical channel identifier. The compressed logical channel identifier occupies fewer bits than the logical channel identifier. The mapping is transmitted to a receiving device. A compressed header that includes the compressed logical channel identifier is formulated. A communication that includes the compressed header is transmitted to the receiving device. In another example embodiment, a method is performed by a receiving device to decode a header having a reduced size. A mapping and a communication including a compressed header are received. A compressed logical channel identifier is extracted from the compressed header. A logical channel identifier is recovered from the compressed logical channel identifier using the mapping.

    • The present invention relates to a method for scheduling a data transmission to a user equipment in a communication system comprising at least one radio network controller (RNC) governing a number of base stations, wherein the communication system supports data transmission from a base station to an user equipment on a high speed packet access (HSPA) bearer or a dedicated channel (DHC) or on similar bearers in a CDMA2000 system. The method comprises the steps of: identifying at least one predetermined scheduling condition for data transmissions for the user equipment; determining at least one current scheduling conditions of the user equipment; comparing the predetermined scheduling conditions of the user equipment with the current conditions of the user equipment; selecting a bearer for the data transmissions during a session from a base station based on the comparison; and using the selected data bearer during the data transmission session or until a new data bearer has been selected. Furthermore, the invention relates to a user equipment, a radio network controller, a computer readable medium and mobile communication system for data transmissions such as VoIP service transmissions in wireless communications systems

    • Techniques for a mobile station to signal a request for a reduction in data transmission rate to a base station are disclosed. An example method for facilitating flow control in a wireless communication system includes monitoring resource use associated with a mobile station and, based upon the resource use, setting a congestion indicator in a header of at least one uplink traffic data packet. The uplink traffic data packet is then sent to a wireless base station, which detects the congestion indicator. In some embodiments, ECN bits in an IP header of the uplink traffic data packet are set. In other embodiments, ECN bits in an IP header of a downlink traffic data packet are set, to trigger the generation of a TCP header that indicates congestion in subsequent uplink packets.

    • Embodiments disclose a method in a communication device in a telecommunications network. The first communication device receives an emergency notification from a broadcasting unit indicating a cell associated to the first communication device wherein the emergency is to be notified to a user equipment. The first communication device determines a paging channel to be used to page and broadcast within the cell a notification indicating an emergency and orders the notification indicating an emergency to be transmitted on the paging channel. The first communication device determines a common control channel to be used to broadcast an emergency confirm message within the cell, and orders the emergency confirm message to be transmitted on the common control channel.
