    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode material with which higher speed machinability can be obtained in the field of electric discharge machining to perform machining using a copper electrode excellent in terms of electric conductivity, and machinability.
      SOLUTION: The machining is performed by using a copper wire on which a film of copper oxide or cuprous oxide is formed on the surface or wire material of high tensile force on which the film of the copper oxide or cuprous oxide is formed on the surface and subjected to copper plating as a wire electrode. Also, in the wire discharge machining apparatus which performs the machining by generating electrostatic discharge in a gap with an opposed workpiece, a wire heating oxidation mechanism for depositing the oxide film on the wire electrode surface by heating the wire electrode in air or in an oxygen atmosphere is disposed on a wire traveling path upstream of the electric discharge machining point.
