摘要： Method and apparatus for supporting reference signals for positioning measurements are disclosed. Methods include subframe configuration, subframe structures, measurement opportunities using a set of downlink subframes which are not all consecutive, handling of subframes containing reference signals and system signals such as synchronization signals, paging occasions and Multicast Broadcast Multimedia Service (MBMS), and related control signaling between a long term evolution (LTE) network and a wireless transmit/ receive unit (WTRU). Moreover, methods to resolve allocation conflicts arising between positioning reference signals and other reference signals are disclosed.

摘要： Techniques for configuring and switching a resource assignment mode for a plurality of component carriers are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) has a capability of supporting multiple resource assignment modes such that a resource assignment mode is configured for a plurality of component carriers that are allocated for the WTRU, and the WTRU attempts to decode a control channel based on the configured resource assignment mode. The resource assignment mode may be configured for the WTRU via higher layer signaling. The resource assignment mode may be specific to the WTRU, or specific to a component carrier or a group of component carriers. The resource assignment mode may be configured separately for a downlink component carrier and an uplink component carrier. The resource assignment mode includes a separate assignment mode with component carrier indication, a separate assignment mode without component carrier indication, or a joint assignment mode.

摘要： A method for handover a mobile unit from a first base station to a second base station in a wireless communication systems employing smart antenna technology. Following trigger events of a handover, the mobile station generates a physical signal sounding pulse transmitted by an isotropic antenna. The sounding pulse may consist of a common sequence of symbols or a specific sequence of symbols that uniquely identifies the mobile station. A series of sounding pulses can be sent according to a power ramping procedure until a base station has focused a communications beam toward the mobile. Receiving base stations provide feedback information upon detection of the sounding pulse allowing the mobile unit and/or base station to form communication beams toward each other. A mapping protocol may also be utilized by the communication system.

摘要： Wireless mobile unit communication initiation is provided in a radio network that has a plurality of base stations, each providing wireless communication services in a respective geographic coverage. The wireless communication is established by first transmitting an omnidirectional sounding pulse from a wireless mobile unit. Information related to the detected sounding pulse is communicated to an interface by each base station detecting the sounding pulse. One of the base stations that detected the sounding pulse is selected for mobile unit communication based on the communicated information and directs a communication beam to the mobile unit to establish wireless communication. Alternatively, one or more of the base stations that detected the sounding pulse direct a communication beam to the mobile unit and the mobile unit selects unit the base station with which it is to establish wireless communication. Preferably, smart antennas, including directional beamforming capability, are employed by the base stations.
