    • PURPOSE:To perform all position plasma welding of fixed tubes at high accuracy, by attaching a ring having sectional area larger than the thickness of fixed tubes and a step for alignment to fixed tubes so that the step protrudes from fixed tubes, and then welding them. CONSTITUTION:A ring 9C is attached to the end of fixed tubes 8A, 8B to be welded provided to arrest rotation. The ring 9C has radial sectional area larger than the thickness D of fixed tubes 8A, 8B, and steps 10A, 10B for centering are provided on the outer periphery and inner periphery respectively. The steps 10A, 10B are made to protrude from inner wall and outer wall of fixed tubes 8A, 8B. By performing plasma keyhole welding under this condition, depression of uranami of welding bead and undercut can be prevented. Dripping of molten metal can be prevented by changing welding current intermittently and alternately to high and low.

    • PURPOSE:To perform local surface hardening of superior surface roughness in a short time by mixing N2 with a working gas, generating a plasma jet arc by the use of a plasma torch and irradiating this to stainless steel. CONSTITUTION:In order to prevent the melting of the surface of a stainless steel blank material 3, the material 3 is sandwiched from both sides with jigs 2 incorporating water-cooled pipes 1 therein, and the respective top surfaces are made flush. Thence, a gaseous mixture of about 30% N2 and about 70% Ar is flowed as a working gas 4, at about 3l/min flow rate, and about 70A electric current is conducted between a nozzle 5 and an electrode 6, whereby a plasma jet flame 7 is generated. This flame 7 is irradiated to the surface of the material 3 for about 2min to nitride the material, whereby the hardened surface of about 1,000Hm hardness and about 0.5mm. depth is obtained. It is effective for hardening reaction to flow N2 or a gaseous mixture of N2 and an inert gas as a shielding gas on the outside circumference of the plasma jet during the flame irradiation.

When the cooling water flows through the passages 8b, 8c, it is atomized and evaporated by the ultrahigh temp. gaseous flow of the gas 14 and the arc 19, so that the mixed fluids of the water, mists and steam act so as to enclose the circumference of the arc 19. The energy density of the arc 19 is improved by thermal pinch effect, and the cut surfaces are made in high quality.

    • PURPOSE:To evaporate part of water and enhance cooling efficiency by forming the cooling water path and shielding water path of a torch into one piece and filling porous metal into the water discharge hole around the nozzle hole. CONSTITUTION:A cooling water path 8 is provided within a copper-made nozzle electrode 7 provided in opposition to a tungsten electrode 6, and its water discharge port is opened in the same direction as plasma arm. Further, porous metal such as sintered metal 10 of bronze is filled in the cooling water path 8 around the nozzle hole 9. The cooling water flowing in the cooling water path 8 cools the nozzle electrode 7 and at the time when it passes the sintered metal 10, part thereof is evaporated and is spouted from the water discharge port by becoming the mixed flow of high temperature water and steam. This steam flow is further evaporated by the plasma arc spouted from the nozzle hole 9, and the energy density of the plasma arc is increased by this mixed fluid and the cut end of cutting material is cooled. In addition, the atmospheric air at the cutting part is expelled; therefore the shoulder drooping of the cut portion is eliminated and the cut end of less oxidation is obtainable.

In case the gap of the position is occurred in accordance with the movement of arm 29 due to the transformation of the weld material 2, signal is transmitted from the circuit 23 by the change of the gap between the displacement meters 13, 14 and the detector 17 through the contact probe 3. To set the deviation of the setting value and this to zero, driving correction in horizontal direction 27 of the moving stand is made through the driving circuit 24, and detection and correction are corrected repeatedly. Hight direction can simultaneously be detected.
