摘要： First rubbing is performed on an entire surface of an alignment film (22) provided on a substrate (21), and then a mask part (51a) for masking a first region and a region of an alignment mark is formed on the alignment film (22) by using a resist layer (51). After performing second rubbing on the alignment film (22) through the mask part (51a), the mask part (51a) is removed, and a liquid crystal layer (23) is formed on the alignment film (22). In this way, the alignment mark is formed as a region having an optical function different from an optical function of a region surrounding the alignment mark. Thus, it is possible to produce a substrate (21) having an alignment mark formed without increasing processing steps at such a position as to contact the liquid crystal layer (23).

摘要： A fuel cell having high operation performance and reliability is provided by optimizing the shape and properties of a gas diffusion layer and the dimensions of a gas flow channel. The fuel cell evenly supplies a reaction gas to the catalyst of a catalyst layer and promptly discharges excessive water generated therein. The gas diffusion layer of the MEA comprises a first section having a surface A coming in direct contact with a separator plate and a second section having a surface B facing the gas flow channel of the separator plate. The porosity of the first section is lower than the porosity of the second section, and the second section protrudes into the gas flow channel, which has sufficient width and depth for the protrusion of the gas diffusion layer, and the width of a rib formed by the gas flow channel is sufficiently narrow.

摘要： A polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack that includes a cell laminate having a plurality of unit cells, which are laid one upon another and each of which includes a polymer electrolyte membrane, a pair of electrodes arranged across the polymer electrolyte membrane and having respective catalytic reaction layers, a separator having means for feeding a supply of fuel gas containing hydrogen gas to one of the electrodes, another separator having means for feeding a supply of oxidant gas to the other of the electrodes, and a manifold for feeding the supply of fuel gas or the supply of oxidant gas to the respective electrode and disposed on a side face of each unit cell. In the polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack, a sealing portion is disposed at least in the vicinity of each electrode. The polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack has excellent durability and productivity. Gasket sealing portions, a sealing portion for cooling water, and sealing portions for water and gas in an internal humidifying unit are composed of a polymer compound that has polyisobutylene as the backbone structure. This arrangement ensures high reliability.

The liquid crystal display device including a first substrate and a second substrate disposed to face each other, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal molecule having positive dielectric anisotropy; the liquid crystal molecule is perpendicularly aligned relative to a surface of the first substrate when no voltage is applied; the first substrate includes a pixel electrode to which an image signal is supplied, a common electrode to which a common signal is supplied, an insulating film, and a lower layer wiring connected to the pixel electrode; the lower layer wiring, the insulating film, and the common electrode are stacked in the stated order towards the liquid crystal layer side; the image signal is supplied to the pixel electrode through the lower wiring; the pixel electrode has a pixel comb-tooth portion; the common electrode has a common comb-tooth portion; the pixel comb-tooth portion and the common comb-tooth portion are planarly disposed to face each other in a pixel; the liquid crystal device has at least two regions having spacings of different lengths between the pixel electrode and the common electrode from each other in the pixel; the lower layer wiring overlaps the common comb-tooth portion and extends along the common comb-tooth portion; and a width of a part of the lower layer wiring which is overlapped with the common comb-tooth portion is substantially the same as or smaller than a width of a part of the common comb-tooth portion which is overlapped with the lower layer wiring.

The liquid crystal display panel of the present invention includes a liquid crystal medium containing a plurality of liquid crystal compounds each having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy, the liquid crystal medium being held between a first substrate and a second substrate that are located opposite each other, and a side of each of the substrates in contact with the liquid crystal medium having vertical alignment properties for the liquid crystal compounds. The liquid crystal medium in the liquid crystal display panel contains a liquid crystal composition (1) or a liquid crystal composition (2) having a specific composition. In the liquid crystal display panel, Δγ which pertains to a transmittance-gradation characteristic curve coefficient and which is calculated from specific expressions is 0.2 or less.
