    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transaction machine for paper money which is small-sized and can detect the state of a broken part with a high precision and provides good services to customers so as not to give an unpleasant feeling.
SOLUTION: The automatic transaction machine for paper money is provided with a money reception/payment port 4, a discrimination part 6, a temporary accumulation part 8, a carrying line 5, and a paper money discrimination device 20 for discriminating the state of paper money. The paper money discrimination device 20 is provided with an energizing driving means which is provided on the carrying line between the money reception/payment port 4 and the temporary accumulation part 8 and applies a tensile force or a compressive force in the direction horizontally orthogonal to the carrying direction on the paper money surface and a paper money picture picking-up means which is provided close to the energizing driving means and consists of an image sensor or an imaging device to pick up the picture of the paper money to which the tensile force or the compressive force is applied by the energizing driving means. The state of the paper money is discriminated on the basis of paper money picture data picked up by the paper money picture picking-up means, and gates 7A and 7B are switched over in accordance with both of this discrimination result and the discrimination result of the discrimination part 6.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of a carrying passage for nipping and carrying paper sheets by endless belts or the necessity of a mechanism for changing the carrying speed to regulate the space between paper sheets, when short, to an intended space, and the breakage or carrying failure of the paper sheet, when dispersed in length within a prescribed range, caused by the state where both ends of the paper sheet are nipped or the paper sheet is not nipped at all. SOLUTION: This device comprises a carrying passage for nipping and carrying a paper sheet having a length within the prescribed range by endless belts at a fixed speed, an accelerating and decelerating carrying passage for varying the carrying speed of the paper sheet in the middle of the carrying passage, a passage detecting means for detecting the passage of the paper sheet near the accelerating and decelerating passage, a measuring means connected to the passing detecting means to measure the space between paper sheets, and a control means for controlling the speed of the accelerating and decelerating carrying passage on the basis of the measurement value of the measuring means. The device further comprises a carrying force moderating means having the nipping point of the carrying passage in the range from the nipping point of the accelerating and decelerating carrying passage to the respective minimum lengths of the upstream and downstream paper sheets to moderate the carrying force in the nipping point of the carrying passage on the upstream side or downstream side of the accelerating and decelerating carrying passage or on the both.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce frequency with which a following document is entangled in a document having a window part, by providing a protrusion projecting to an accumulation space so as to contain a thickness direction of a paper sheet and in a range from a front frame member on a top side in a carrying direction to a half of a length in the transportation direction. SOLUTION: The cross section of a protrusion 111 is trapezoidal, two surfaces, a surface 111a parallel with a base member 18 and a surface 111b tilting so as to close to the base member 18 with closing the upstream side of the surface 111a, project to an accumulation space. The two surfaces share one edge, which is called a cross line K, and the cross line K is a position where a document that is inclined and accumulated such as a document 1C abuts to the protrusion 111. By providing a tilting surface such as the surface 111b, the tip of a document 1 passes at the cross line K smoothly. By projecting the protrusion 111 having a cross point K to the accumulation space, a document is accumulated diagonally to the transportation direction, and the entangling frequency in a window part can be reduced.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to eliminate an error in arranging in order paper leaves while a rearranging operation is underway by comparing an order in which numbers are sequentially given to the paper leaves with an order in which the numbers are sequantially read as prearranged per number of times of operation, then identifying abnormal paper leaves and changing the process to deal with the abnormal paper leaves. SOLUTION: A letter 1 contained in a hopper 9 is conveyed to accumulating means 6 through a position arranging means 4 and a reading means 5 by a feeder means 2 and a conveying means 3. Division information such as an address is read by the reading means 5 en route, then a conveyance control means 11 reads an order number corresponding to the division information based on an order data base 10 and switches a distributing means 7 according to the order number to accumulate the letter 1 in the specified accumulating means 6. Further, the letter 1 is moved to the hopper 9 and the same operation is repeated a specified number of times. The order number followed by each of the operations performed per number of times is stored in a first and a second storage procedure 13, 14. An error in the order number is identified by a comparison means 12 each time the operation is performed to reject the error. Thus it is possible to prevent the letter 1 from being erroneously rearranged.
