    • An embolic protection system 1 comprises a guidewire 99 for advancing through a vasculature, the guidewire 99 having a distal end and a proximal end; an embolic protection filter 1 having a filter body 41 with a distal end and a proximal end, the filter body 41 providing for a collapsed configuration and an expanded deployed configuration. The embolic protection filter body 41 has a guidewire path for slidably receiving the guidewire 99 to permit movement of the filter 1 relative to the guidewire 99 when the filter 1 is in the collapsed configuration and the expanded deployed configuration. A delivery catheter 2 is advanceable over the guidewire 99 for delivery of the embolic protection filter 1; the delivery catheter 2 having a proximal end and a distal end. The filter 1 is deployed from the distal end of the delivery catheter 2 into the expanded deployed configuration. A retrieval catheter 3 is also advancable over the guidewire 99 for retrieval of the filter 1, the retrieval catheter 3 having a distal end and a proximal end; and engagement elements for engaging the embolic protection filter 1 with the guidewire 99 for retrieval of the filter 1 into the retrieval catheter 3 in the collapsed configuration.

    • The present invention relates to the measurement of the depth of a contaminant, e.g. snow, found on a roadway or runway from a moving vehicle by measuring the distance between where a beam of light hits the upper surface of the contaminant and where the beam of light should have hit the roadway or runway based on the position of the light source. To eliminate the effects of pitch and roll on the measurements a second light source provides a reference spot, whereby the contaminant depth calculations can be performed independent of the distance between the roadway or runway and the light sources. A video recording device, such as a digital camera, is used to capture images of the spots, whereby the distances can be measured by adding the number of pixels between the spots in the images. The present invention can also be used for determining the surface texture/roughness and the coefficient of friction of the roadway or runway by increasing the sensitivity of the recording device to capture minute changes in relative spot position, and by utilizing complex signal processing to correlate the changes in relative spot position to surface texture/roughness.

    • An automated stitching device having a "C"-shaped arcuate needle which is incrementally advanced in a circular path. A toggle and drive plate arrangement is used to drive the needle, and a one-way clutch mechanism is used to engage and permit incremental advancement of the needle along its circular path. The "C"-shaped arcuate needle is mounted and driven at the distal end of an elongated shaft. The stitching device is particularly suited for microsurgery, laparoscopic surgery, and various less invasive surgical procedures, and particularly for the suturing of blood vessels including during cardiac bypass surgery.

    • An improved vibrating massage apparatus in the form of an elongated pad incorporating a plurality of independently controllable vibrating members to impose vibratory oscillations along the full extent of the apparatus. Each vibrating member includes a motor having a pair of rotatable shafts extending outward therefrom in axial opposition to one other, a fixed eccentric weight being secured at the end of each shaft. Each vibrating motor is secured within a housing, the outer surface thereof extending outwardly into a planar flange. The planar flanges of the motor housings are imbedded within a unitary foam member which substantially defines the shape of the pad. An electrical switching circuit sequentially activates and deactivates each of the vibrating motors in a predetermined manner.
