    • The invention relates to a surgical instrument with a tubular shaft. The instrument comprises a shaft (12), a working rod (16) that is displaceably mounted in said shaft (12), a handle part (18) for operating the working rod (16), and connecting means which detachably connect the handle part (18) and the shaft (12) to each other. The shaft (12) can be fixed in an inner sleeve (30) of the handle part (18) in an axial direction by means of an interlocking body (42) which is inserted into a recess (44) of the shaft (12) and which is radially displaceable in the inner sleeve (30). The radial outward movement of the interlocking body (42) is limited by a stop element (68) which can also be moved into a position in which it enables the interlocking body (42) to move radially outwards. Fixing means (80, 90) are provided and allow the stop element (68) to be fixed in an enabling position. Said fixing means (80, 90) can be acted upon by the shaft (12) in such a way that this fixed state can be released through the displacement of the shaft (12) in the inner sleeve (30). The aim of the invention is to configure an instrument of this type in such a way as to simplify its structure. To this end, the fixing means comprise a fixing element (80) that is displaceably guided in the handle part (18), outside of the inner sleeve (30).

    • The invention relates to a bipolar gripping device with two gripping jaws that can be moved towards each other. The gripping jaws are electrically insulated with regard to each other and can be linked with one pole each of an electrical high-frequency voltage source. Said gripping jaws are provided with two respective spaced-apart gripping elements that define a longitudinal slot between them and that have respective gripping surfaces. The gripping device is further provided with a cutting device that comprises a cutting element with a cutting edge, said cutting element being displaceable within the longitudinal slots of the gripping jaws. The aim of the invention is to improve the constructive design of the drive mechanism and the operability of such a device. To this end, the cutting element is disposed in the longitudinal slot of the one gripping jaw in such a manner that its cutting edge is received between the gripping elements of said gripping jaw and does not project beyond the gripping surfaces thereof in the direction of the other gripping jaw. The gripping elements of said gripping jaw can be elastically displaced relative to the cutting element against the closing motion of the gripping jaws to such an extent that the cutting edge of the cutting element projects beyond the gripping surfaces.

    • In order to facilitate the easy assembly and dismantling of the individual components in an instrument for surgical purposes with two mutually movable working parts (1, 2) and two relatively pivotable gripping arms (3, 4), one of which is coupled to one working part and the other to the other in such a way that, when the gripping arms are opened or closed, the two working parts are moved relatively, whereby one (3) of the two gripping arms bears a spindle (8) on which the other (4) can pivot, it is proposed that the spindle (8) have regions (14, 15) of different diameters and be movable in such a way that a region of greater or one of smaller diameter be effective in the region of the other gripping arm, as desired, that the other gripping arm (4) have a keyhole-wise (16) widening insertion slot with a narrower insertion section (18) and a widened bearing section (17) for the spindle (8), the width of which in the narrow insertion section (18) lies between the diameter of the two regions (14, 15) of the spindle (8) and has a diameter in the circularly widened bearing section (17) which corresponds to the larger diameter of the spindle (8), and that the gripping arm (4) supported on the spindle (8) engage in one working part by means of a catch.
