    • A socket connector includes a housing positioned on a circuit board and movably supporting a cover. Cells are defined in the housing for retaining dual-beam terminals. The cover carries a central processing unit module having pin legs extending through holes defined in the cover and projecting into the cells of the housing. The cover is movable in a moving direction to bring the pin legs into engagement with the terminals. Each terminal includes a base section retained in each cell and a tail extending and beyond the housing for being soldered to the circuit board. Two beams extend from the base section, substantially opposite to the tail. Each beam forms a spring arm. The spring arms are opposite to and spaced from each other for engaging the corresponding pin leg therebetween. The beams are symmetric with respect to an imaginary plane that is normal to the base section and coincident with the moving direction. Each beam has a major surface angularly offset from the imaginary plane and thus forming a first included angle with the imaginary plane. The major surface also forms a second included angle with the base section. The included angles are smaller than 90 degrees and greater than 0 degree. Preferably, the included angles are 45 degrees. The angularly offset configuration of the beams allows easy adjustment of the space between the spring arms and thus adjustment of the performance parameters of the terminals.

    • An electrical connector assembly for connecting a chipset to a printed circuit board comprises a dielectric housing having a number of terminal-receiving passageways defined between a top mating face and a bottom terminating face thereof. Two connecting protrusions are respectively formed on opposite sides of the housing. A number of terminals are received in the passageways of the housing. Each terminal has a contact portion and a tail portion extending from the contact portion. A fastening piece is attached to the housing, and includes a body and two legs extending substantially perpendicular from opposite ends of the body. Each leg defines a mating groove on an inner face thereof for mating with the corresponding connecting protrusion of the housing. When the fastening piece is mounted to the housing, the chipset is securely sandwiched between the fastening piece and the housing, and when the fastening piece is removed from the housing, the chipset can be easily detached from the housing.

    • A socket connector includes a rectangular base defining an array of slots arranged in rows and columns parallel to edges thereof. The slots receive and retain contact elements therein. A rectangular cover is movably supported on the base and defines holes therein corresponding to the slots for receiving pins of a central processing unit (CPU). The base has lugs formed on two diagonal corners thereof each forming a wall substantially normal to the diagonal direction. The cover forms a straight edge at a comer corresponding to each lug of the base. A triangular notch is formed in each wall having a first side inclined with respect to the diagonal direction and a second side substantially parallel to the diagonal direction. The notch is capable of receiving a screwdriver therein and allows the screwdriver to rotate. The rotation of the screwdriver causes an edge thereof to partially project beyond the wall and drivingly engages with the corresponding straight edge of the cover for moving the cover with respect to the base thereby driving the pins of the CPU to engage with the contact elements.

    • An auxiliary device comprises a body with a planar surface for engaging with a vacuum nozzle. A pair of supporting portions perpendicularly extends from lateral edges of the body and forms a receiving space for receiving the assembled electrical connector. A stand-off portion is formed at a free end of each supporting portion. The height of the stand-off portion is less than the height (diameter) of the solder balls before soldering, and equal to the height of solder balls after soldering. Thus, the height of the solder balls is determined by the height of the stand-off portions and the planarity of the electrical connector is ensured by the stand-off portions. The provision of the stand-off portions also prevents solder wicking.
