    • The invention concerns the transmission of data (12) over a mobile telecommunication network (14), wherein the network (14) is configured to charge fees at a first rate for transmitting data of a first type and fees at a second, less expensive, rate for transmitting data of a second type. According to a first aspect of the invention, at least a portion of the original data (12) to be transmitted is converted from the first type into the second type before sending the processed data (12') to the network. A corresponding conversion from the second type into the first type is performed at the receiver's side to obtain re-created data (12") from the received data. According to a second aspect of the invention, the original data (12) is processed to obtain at least a first portion (26.x) of data having the first type and a second portion (26.x) of data having the second type. The at least two portions (26.x) are sent to the network (14) via different channels to ensure that at least the second portion (26.x) will be billed at the second, lower rate. The invention enables data transmission over the telecommunication network (14) at reduced costs.
