    • A continuous process for the manufacture of a fibrous material from a polyolefin. The process comprises feeding a solution of polyolefin dissolved in an organic solvent at elevated temperature and pressure to a spinneret (5). The exit of the spinneret is the inlet to an elongated vertical tube (12) and is located in an upper section of an elongated vertical vessel (1). The tube extends for a major portion of the length of the vessel. Solvent is removed from an upper section of the vessel and water is sprayed both down the tube (14) and into the vessel (13). The strands thus formed (20) are shredded in a self-cleaning self-feeding shredder (4) located at the bottom of the vessel. The shredded fibres and water are conveyed to a second vessel (2) having a baffle (16) located between the inlet (25) and outlet (24) thereof such that the shredded fibrous material passes from the inlet, over the baffle and to the outlet of the second vessel, the upper lip of the baffle being so that the level of water in the second vessel is in substantially the same horizontal plane as the shredder. An inert gas e.g. steam, is fed (23) to the second vessel to effect removal of volatile matter. The shredded fibres and liquid passing from the second vessel are fed to a dewatering device (3). The process may be used to manufacture fibrous polyolefin products e.g. in the form of a pulp. The preferred polyolefin is a high molecular weight homopolymer of ethylene or copolymer of ethylene and at least one C₄-C₁₀ hydrocarbon alpha-olefin.

    • A concentrate comprising a copolymer and 65 to 300%, by weight of the copolymer, of a vinyl silane is disclosed. The vinyl silane is vinyl trimethoxysilane and/or vinyl triethoxysilane. The copolymer is a copolymer of ethylene with at least one comonomer selected from the group consisting of carbon monoxide, vinyl acetate, alkyl acrylates and alkyl methacrylates, in which the alkyl groups have 1-4 carbon atoms. The copolymer is in a particulate form and has a heat of crystallization of less than 70 J/g, and if said copolymer is ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, then the copolymer has a vinyl acetate content of at least 18% by weight. The concentrate is maintained in a moisture-free environment and is in solid form. The concentrates are used in the moisture cross-linking of alpha-olefin polymers and offer versatility in processes for such cross-linking.
