摘要： A ticker (406) to display information is implemented (Fig. 5) in an interactive television system (100). The ticker (406) has user controllable display features, such as fast forward, rewind, speed control, skip, slow motion, or pause. If an item of interest has scrolled by too quickly, the user can initiate a rewind operation to view the previously displayed item, instead of waiting for the ticker (406) to re-display the item during a next cycle. Fast forward or skip operations give the user the ability to quickly cycle through items in the ticker (406) that are of less interest. Slow motion or pause operations give the user sufficient time to view an item at length. Speed controls allow adjustment of the scroll speed of the ticker (406). The user controllable features are implemented in a dynamic manner by the user while viewing the ticker (406) and can be readily changed, as compared to static settings made through a configuration screen.

If selected, these links provide a connection to a merchant web site, a synthetic shopping channel, or other location where the viewer can conduct a transaction. The viewer can conduct the transaction within the ticker itself, rather than through a separate transaction window. The advertisements presented in the ticker can be targeted based on implicit or explicit profiling of the viewer. The advertisements can be context-sensitive in that they relate to the subject matter of the television program currently being shown, via use of triggers. Viewer response to an advertisement presented in a ticker can launch a videophone or web cam phone communication with the participating merchant, in some situations.

摘要： Eye-to-eye videoconferencing may be carried out through the use of a bendable coupling that removably disposes an image receiving device between a screen portion of a display and a person viewing the screen portion. According to one example, the image receiving device comprises a lens that conveys light into the distal end of a coherent fiber optic bundle. The light then moves through the cable to reach a camera offset from the screen portion. Alternatively, the image receiving device may be a miniature camera that provides a video signal via a video cable connected to the camera. As another alternative, the camera may be coupled to a miniature wireless transmitter. A wireless receiver offset from the screen portion may then receive the video signal and convey it to a display or communications network.
