    • The brushless DC motor of the present invention comprises a permanent magnet rotor rotating coaxially with and inside of the stator containing the electric windings, separated by a radial, axially extending gap. The rotor can be formed of four or more permanent, e.g., ferrite ceramic magnets, spaced substantially equidistantly circumferentially around the rotor and extending radially along the axial length of the rotor. The preferred ferrite magnets are substantially corrosion resistant, and thus durable in the wet rotor environment, in which it may be used, sufficient to withstand the effects of even hot salt water. Preferably, four of the permanent magnets are bar magnets, i.e., rectangular in cross-section, extending radially and perpendicularly to the adjacent magnets. Most preferably, the bar magnets are separated by generally wedge-shaped, or quadrant-shaped, sections of magnetic material. The permanent magnets are polarized so that the north-south flux lines extend transversely to each adjacent magnet, most preferably forming a so-called Halbach Array. This brushless DC motor is especially useful for driving wet rotor pumps, wherein the particular combination of elements forming the rotor results in a highly efficient, effective and durable motor

    • Solar heating systems are provided which utilize an integrated fixture for transferring heat from a solar collector to a lower-temperature loop, e.g. a domestic hot water system or radiant heating system. The fixture provides a heat exchanger for transferring heat from the solar collector to the lower temperature loop. The fixture may also include a casting, in which are formed solar collector supply and return ports, lower temperature supply and return ports, a solar collector pump volute, and a lower temperature pump volute. The systems also include two pumps, and a temperature optimization control that varies the speed of at least one of the pumps depending on the temperature of the liquid in the solar collector.

    • A water feed controller which can provide for the addition of a preset fixed amount of water to be added after a low water condition is removed. This system provides for a preset fixed amount of water to be added to a boiler above the amount which triggers the low water condition. This generally inhibits excess cycling from the boiler operating at its minimum safe water level as well as inhibiting overfilling of the boiler. Further, there is discussed a water feed controller which can measure the amount of water added over a prior predetermined period (such as 30 days) which serves as a floating window of time so that a leak or other condition resulting in overly frequent filling can be detected quickly.

    • Multiple coil fittings are connected in series to a closed loop single pipe circuit. Each coil fitting provides a paralleled chilled water flow to a fan coil servicing an enclosure. The coil fitting has a housing enclosing a first tubing for directing chilled water to the fan coil and a second tubing for directing return water to the pipe circuit. A baffle is mounted radially on the end of the second tubing proximal to the pipe circuit causing a portion of the chilled water in the pipe circuit to flow into the first pipe with the return water entering the pipe circuit below the baffle so there is no mixing of return water with the chilled water entering the first tubing regardless of the direction of flow in the pipe circuit. A humidistat mounted near the load coil farthest from the chiller sends a relative humidity signal to a diverter valve that changes the direction of chilled water flow in the pipe circuit.
