    • A method includes providing a stack for a thin-film energy storage device, the stack having an electrode layer 204. A first portion of the electrode layer is removed using at least one first pulse of a laser beam. A second portion of the electrode layer is removed using at least one second pulse of a laser beam. The shape of the first and second portions correspond at least partly to the cross-sections of the laser beam during the first and second pulses. The first and second removed portions are spaced apart such that a remaining portion 230a of the electrode layer is left between the first and second portions as a fuse portion. The method may further include arranging an electrical connector 228 in contact with the electrode layer and removing first and second portions of the electrical connector using laser pulses to leave a remaining portion 135 which is in contact with the fuse portion of the electrode layer. The electrical connector may comprise a different material to the electrode layer. Once the first and second portions of the electrode layer have been removed the electrode layer may comprise first and second perforations.
