    • A TV monitor includes an antenna coupler capable of selectively coupling the TV receiver being monitored to an antenna or an r.f. oscillator. The oscillator is selectively operated to impose an r.f. signal onto the antenna input of the receiver between successive horizontal blanking periods on an active video line. One probe, connected to the horizontal retrace circuit of the receiver monitors the receiver for an "on " or "off" condition, while another probe, connected to the kinescope circuits of the receiver detects the channel to which the receiver is tuned. By successively stepping the r.f. oscillator through successive frequencies within the bandwidth of individual channels, and by monitoring the kinescope probe for that frequency which compares to that generated, channel identification may be determined. A plurality of individual monitors may be utilized with individual receivers within a household and the data may be collected and stored in a household collector for eventual transmission to a central station.

    • An apparatus for examining the interior of a bore hole and/or caisson. The apparatus includes a gyroscope arrangement for determining true azimuth reference and slant angle and slant angle azimuth direction relative to the reference. A television camera including a lighting section is fixed relative to the gyroscope package by a cage which is adapted for slidingly engaging the interior of the bore hole and/or caisson so that the gyroscope package can make effective determinations relative to the same in order to enable establishing the location of the television camera. A remote control is provided for controlling the lowering of the cage into the bore hole and/or caisson and for controlling the television camera as well as the lighting arrangement therefor. A television monitor is employed which is connected to the camera for displaying scenes of the interior as the gyroscope and camera arrangement is lowered through the bore hole and/or caisson. A device is provided for supplying clear or clarified water into the bore hole and/or caisson to maintain a hydraulic head therein and to facilitate the examining of the interior.

    • The system is for use in an apartment house or other multi-unit dwelling and generally includes a central station which is preferably in the lobby of the apartment house and a plurality of unit stations, one being associated with each unit of the apartment house. The central or lobby station includes a plurality of manually actuable switches, one identifying each apartment unit, a television camera and a speaker/microphone arrangement for communicating with an occupant of the apartment house. Each unit station similarly includes a corresponding speaker/microphone arrangement, along with a lobby door release switch, a television receiver and a talk/listen switch. In accordance with the invention circuitry including relay and delay means are also located in the central station and unit stations. When one of the switches in the lobby is depressed and the television receiver in the corresponding unit is on, the video signal from the lobby camera automatically overrides the video signal of the tuned-in station regardless of which station is tuned-in and the occupant can immediately observe the lobby area to determine whether or not to actuate the door release switch.

    • A surveillance and intrusion detection system is provided using a scanning-type sensor to monitor a field of view and transmit a video signal to a moving target indicator (MTI) the output of which is applied to an alarm system through a threshold level detector having a relatively low-threshold level for higher system sensitivity. A correlation unit minimizes false alarms which could occur from high-level noise by transmitting pulses to the alarm system only when they occur at approximately the same place in three successive scanning lines. Other units are provided for correlation of other possible moving targets in the same line. When transmitted pulses are added to the video signal from the sensor for display, the outline of a moving target is brightened.

    • Apparatus and methods for the selective identification and display of four unique fields in the PAL system. Trigger pulses are generated to enable selective display by a waveform monitor of the vertical blanking interval waveforms of any desired field in the four field sequence. Pursuant to a first embodiment, particularly useful where there is available from equipment being monitored (half line frequency) master binary output keyed to the burst phase alternation as well as sync pulse outputs, the trigger pulse generation is achieved by apparatus including coincidence circuits responding to sync signals and master binary waveforms. In accordance with a further embodiment, of more universal applicability, the trigger pulse generating apparatus requires only a composite video signal input. In the latter embodiment, facilities are provided for simultaneously displaying the four unique vertical interval waveforms, one above the other, in a predetermined position sequence. The latter embodiment further provides facilities for determining the field phase coincidence of differently sourced PAL signals.
