The motor is intended for use as a traction motor and the pole member and winding arrangement chosen are stated to permit a high power/weight ratio and to facilitate commutation. The armature windings 18, Fig. 1, is mounted on a core 17 secured to a light metal, e.g. aluminium, spider 13. The armature conductors may be sub-divided bar conductors. To facilitate commutation, the stator main pole shoes 30, Fig. 4 (not shown) are shaped so that the air gap under each main pole increases in both circumferential directions from the pole centre line.

    • A disk motor and an electric power tool in which positioning of a coil disk with respect to a commutator disk can be carried out while reliably ensuring insulating properties are provided. A disk motor having: an output shaft part; a coil disk that is provided with a coil pattern and provided coaxially to the output shaft part; a commutator disk that is provided with a commutator pattern and provided coaxially to the output shaft part; and a positioning pin that is electrically insulated from the coil disk and the commutator disk, is engaged with the output shaft part and the coil disk, and carries out positioning of the coil disk with respect to the output shaft part, and an electric power tool having the disk motor are provided.

    • A brush motor includes a stator with 2P magnetic poles and a rotor which includes a rotor core, a commutator and windings wound on the rotor core. The rotor core includes N teeth with a slot formed between adjacent teeth. The commutator includes M segments represented by Z1 . . . ZX . . . ZY . . . ZM, wherein M, N, P, Y and X are integers and M is odd and greater than N. Each winding includes a start connected to a segment ZX and an end connected to another segment ZY. Each winding includes at least one coil wound about a corresponding tooth or set of teeth. Some of the windings include a plurality of coils wound on different teeth. The total number of turns of the coils for each winding is substantially the same. A winding unit consisting of a plurality of windings is connected between each pair of adjacent segments. ZX and ZY satisfy the following equation: |Y−X|=(M±1)/P.

    • This invention relates to an improved armature for a four pole wave wound direct current machine and also to a method for winding the armature for such a machine. A plural turn winding is free formed or wound in place to substantially a final shape with two ends spaced for connection to commutator segments spaced substantially 180.degree. apart on the armature and with at least four sides defining at least two open turns. The winding sides are spaced for engaging slots in the armature core which are spaced substantially 90.degree. apart. The winding is initially free formed and the turns are separated as necessary to insert the winding on the core and to position the winding sides in their assigned slots in the armature core.
