摘要： In the practice of the invention, a small magnet is attached to a slidable tab located on the leading edge of the cartridge. Before insertion of the cartridge into the recorder, the slidable tab is moved by the user to one of two positions. One position is the write protect position for inhibiting recording on the tape in the cartridge, and the other position permits recording on the tape. The associated recorder has two side by side Hall effect sensors. When the cartridge is positioned in the recorder, the magnet, depending upon the selected position of the cartridge tab, is directly opposite to, and activates, only one or the other Hall effect sensors. If no cartridge is in the recorder, neither Hall effect sensor is activated, indicating that no cartridge is in place. If the cartridge is in the recorder, and if the first sensor is activated, then the write protect circuit of the recorder is energized. If the second sensor is activated, then writing on the tape is permitted. The invention thereby provides write protection as well as a positive indication of the presence of the cartridge in the recorder.Additionally, fixed magnets may also be located on the cartridge for activating other Hall effect sensors in the recorder. These magnets may be configured to indicate a classification of the cartridge to specify the recorder with which it is compatible, or to specify the type of tape loaded in the cartridge.

摘要： A compatible recording/reproducing apparatus for selective use with a standard-size tape cassette and compact-size tape cassette. Included is a main chassis having a set of fixed positioned pins for positioning the standard-size tape cassette thereon, and a pair of drive spindles for driving engagement with the reel hubs of the standard-size tape cassette. A floating chassis, much less in size than the main chassis, is mounted thereto for displacement in a direction at right angles with the principal plane of the main chassis. The floating chassis has mounted thereon another set of positioning pins for positioning the compact-size tape cassette thereon, and a drive gear for driving engagement with a driven gear incorporatd with the compact-size tape cassette. Positioned on the floating chassis, the compact-size tape cassette has its magnetic tape transported by the drive gear and one of the drive spindles on the main chassis. When the standard-size tape cassette is loaded in the apparatus, the floating chassis is retracted out of interference with the standard-size tape cassette, permitting the same to be positioned on the set of positioning pins on the main chassis and driven by the pair of drive spindles.

摘要： A tape cassette loading system for a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus, such as a VTR, capable of operating with a plurality of kinds of tape cassettes varying in the center distance between a pair of reels contained therein comprises a reel mount shifting mechanism which discriminates between different tape cassettes and varies the center distance between a pair of reel mounts of the VTR according to the center distance between a pair of reels of a tape cassette to be used, a cassette holder capable of moving between a cassette inserting position and a cassette mounting position, a tape loading mechanism for winding the tape of a tape cassette mounted on the reel mounts around a rotary drum, driving circuits respectively for driving the reel mount shifting mechanism, the cassette holder and the tape loading mechanism, a single variable output power circuit for supplying power to the driving circuits, and a control circuit for connecting the variable output power circuit alternately to the driving circuits in a time sharing mode. The provision of a single variable output power circuit and the connection of the variable output power circuit alternately to the driving circuits eliminate accidental simultaneous actuation of the driving circuits and reduce the scale of the electrical circuit of the tape cassette loading system.
