    • A multicolor magnetographic printing system wherein a magnetizable surface is recorded upon with a different recording wavelength for each color to be printed. Toner is supplied which includes a mixture of different types of particles, each having a different color. The differently colored particles each maximally adhere only to areas on the surface recorded at a wavelength specific for the particular particle type. The toner particles are varied in magnetic susceptibility as well as linear dimensions so as to adjust their maximum adherence for the particularly matched wavelength. Such a system may further include an image enhancement system to ensure that the proper toner particles are concentrated in the appropriate areas. The toner is transferred to a paper surface by both preheating the paper before transfer and heating it afterwards to fix the toner onto the paper surface.

    • An improved print mechanism for a plural-function recorder having a single record receiver includes a continuously orbiting rod and a plurality of print wheels each of which has a plurality of marking elements on the periphery thereof. The orbiting rod operates successively and repetitively to effect joint step-bystep angular synchronous adjustments of said print wheels to bring each of said marking elements, in turn, into a position for marking said record receiver. The orbiting rod also actuates said print wheels, when so adjusted, into and out of firm marking engagement with said record receiver. Recording in different modes selectively may be effected by a manual adjustment which permits relative axial displacement of said print wheels and thereby printing by one only or both of said print wheels continuously, or by one continuously and the other intermittently.

    • A printing mechanism comprises a rotary print drum having around the periphery thereof a series of circumferentially spaced-apart rows of print type, a drive system for electromagnetically rotating the print drum in an intermittent manner to successively position the rows of type in a print position, paper feed means for feeding a paper strip to be printed on past the print drum, and an electromagnetically actuated print hammer for striking one of the rows of print type while same is stationary in the print position to print the information contained on that row of type on the paper strip. The drive system comprises a ratchet wheel connected to the print drum, two pawls engageable with different teeth of the ratchet wheel, two electromagnets responsive to alternate pulse signals for electromagnetically reciprocating the pawls in alternate sequence to effect intermittent rotation of the print drum, and an electric control circuit for alternately applying pulse signals to the electromagnets. The operation of the paper feed means is synchronized with the rotation of the print drum to incrementally advance the paper strip one space per one revolution of the print drum and the print hammer is electromagnetically actuated one time during each revolution of the print drum to strike one of the rows of type while same is at rest in the print position.
