    • An obturator ring for location between a sliding wedge-type breech block and a base ring in the barrel of a cannon to provide a seal and allow satisfactory closing movement of the obturator ring. The ring comprises an angle section with a radial flank having a disc lining on the external side facing the breech, the flank which is parallel to the axis of the bore of the barrel having on the external side a cylindrical lining. The linings are deformable, incompressible and capable of being forced over their widths against the base ring or the wedge insert by the flanks which deform under gas pressure. The linings are interconnected in the corner cross section of the obturator ring via a number of connecting rod-like members disposed in bores through the obturator ring; the flanks are joined through a rounded corner portion which allows flexure to effect through the tips of the flanks. The linings provide a large sealing surface of which the minimum width is greater than one-half of the length.

    • A submarine weapon handling system and method includes a storage tray, ramming tray, and transfer tray. Each tray has a plurality of rotatable bands received in grooves in the trays and are movable between an open weapon receiving position and a closed weapon clamping position. The storage tray and ramming tray are stationary and the transfer tray is movable. The transfer tray is moved into contact with a weapon secured in the storage tray, the bands of the transfer tray are rotated around the weapon, and the bands in the storage tray are rotated from closed to open position permitting the transfer tray to move a selected weapon into the bands of the ramming tray which are then rotated into weapon clamping position while the bands of the transfer tray are opened permitting the transfer tray to be moved away from the ramming tray.

    • A rammer car has a rammer head which is movably supported in the transversal direction. The rammer car is composed of two units which are arranged to carry out a longitudinal displacement movement between the units in the riding direction of the rammer car. The rammer head is fastened in the first unit and the latter is arranged to be forced by the second unit to carry out a turning movement during the longitudinal displacement movement between the units, during which the rammer head follows the first unit and therewith carries out its turning movement in the transversal direction. After said longitudinal displacement movements the units are co-ordinated for a longitudinal displacement movement together in the longitudinal displacement direction.

    • A ramming unit comprises a tooth (5) which is placed at the front parts of the unit. The tooth is arranged so that it can be raised and lowered, and in its raised position the rear side (5a) of the tooth coacts with a shell (2) or the like when this is rammed in a firearm by means of the ramming unit. In its lowered position the tooth permits the passage of a bag charge (4) or the like which is to be placed behind the shell in the bore of the barrel. The tooth and the other parts are made with force relieving means which transfer substantial parts of the forces arising on the tooth in connection with the ramming direct to said other parts of the ramming unit, and not via the supporting means of the tooth.

    • A shoulder arm, such as a rifle, having a breech member which can be swivelled about an axis which is perpendicular to the axis of the barrel for loading the breech member contains a firing chamber which is in alignment with the barrel in is firing position and which is closed to the rear. The shoulder arm has an arrangement for swivelling the breech member out of the firing position and into a loading position, in which said firing chamber is accessible for the introduction of a cartridge. The breech member is designed as a roller which can be swivelled about its longitudinal axis and which is arranged in a cylindrical hole in a member which is fixedly attached to the barrel and whose wall directly closes the firing chamber when it is located in the firing position. The wall is retained in its respective position by means of the arrangement for swivelling the breech member.
