    • A latch assembly for use with a vehicle seat pivotally mounted to a vehicle floor and which engages a striker associated with the vehicle floor. A planar shaped support bracket secures to an underside location of the seat. A first latching member pivotally mounts to the planar support bracket and exhibits an edge defined recess. A second latching member pivotally mounts to the planar support bracket, in overlapping relationship relative to the first latching member, and exhibits a second edge defined recess opposing the first recess. The first and second latching members define a first engaged position by which the striker bar is seated therebetween. A linkage member is secured to each of the latching members and is actuated causing the first latching member to pivot in a first unseating direction relative to the striker, the second latching member is caused to pivot in an opposite unseating direction and to disengage the striker from the vehicle seat in a second disengaged position.

    • A guard grille for a window, door, or the like, has a retainer member which is fixedly attached thereto and which is adapted to releasably engage a latching mechanism which is retained on the wall adjacent to a window frame. The latching mechanism includes an inner latching member which is attached to a slidably mounted rod and an outer retainer collet which in the latched position retains the latching member within the retainer member. A spring is placed between the inner latching member and the retainer member, this spring being compressed when the mechanism is in the latched condition. The mechanism is unlatched by means of a knob located adjacent to the inner wall surrounding the window frame, this knob being attached to the rod connected to the inner latching member. Inward actuation of the knob moves the inner latching member away from the retainer collet against the spring, thereby releasing the latching mechanism, the spring and actuation by the operator driving the grille away from the window.

    • A door latch mechanism (10) comprises a pin (11) having an elongate axis, and releasable jaw means (12) comprising a pair of jaw elements (18) which engage the pin therebetween to latch a door (16) in a closed position to a door frame (14). The pin is mounted on the door or the door frame with biasing means, such as a pair of springs, so as to allow the pin to move substantially linearly in a direction perpendicular to the elongate axis of the pin and substantially parallel to the plane of the door when in the closed position. The movement of the pin (11) allowed by the biasing means caters for any vertical displacement of the door caused by worn hinges for example without any forced distortion of the door. The invention is of particular benefit to doors having no frame and which are susceptible to flexing and come with the associated risk of structural failure.

    • Guard apparatus for a window or the like in a building characterized by a guard element that is hingedly mounted to a wall adjacent the window and adapted to prevent entry into the window from the exterior and having a fastener that is releasable by hand and without tools from the interior of the building to allow emergency egress through the window.     • A plate-like pawl blockingly engages between a pair of forked latch members, which are spring-biased toward one another to a position in which they encircle and latch a fixed automobile door keeper. The blocking part of the pawl is an integral plate component on a dogging arm of a heavy duty sheet metal stamping presenting three angularly divergent arms, the mentioned arm being undogged normally by a vertically shiftable, intermittent latch operator, disconnector and control slide when the lock is in an unlocked, non-freewheeling setting. To this end the slide has a laterally offset operating tab which is engageable for the purpose with an integral offset formation on a second de-dogging kick-off arm of the pawl, thus placing the latter in a latch releasing position. When the slide is cocked a bit transversely of its direction of longitudinal undogging shift, in a pivotal movement about a connection to an outside-operated bell crank, the slide overruns or free-wheels relative to the pawl arm''s offset, hence disables the pawl from unlatching the lock. For the purpose of thus cocking the slide, the latter is provided with an elongated slot which receives a laterally offset tang on one arm of a pivoted multi-arm locking lever whereby, upon a swing of that lever in a pawl-disabling and locking direction, the slide is shifted or cocked to its position to overrun the pawl arm offset. Otherwise, the tab of the slide operates to undog the pawl without interference from the locking lever tang, since the slide''s slot receiving said tang is elongated, in the unlocked setting, on the direct line of shift of the operator and disconnect slide, hence is idly overrun by the latter. The locking lever is selectively operated by inside remote control and key-operated lever connections. The outside operator is a bell crank type, on an arm of which a bottom portion of the disconnect slide has a fixed, rivet-type pivotal operating connection. An automatic feature is also incorporated to enable the door to be locked without key from the outside.

    • In a means for coupling or locking two parts together, one part is provided with a preferably conical stud which can be inserted against a stop in a conical recess in the other part. One or preferably two or more spring actuated latching members pivotal about shafts at right angles to the axial direction of the stud are free to enter an enlarged section of the recess so that the latching members like barbs of a hook or harpoon prevent the stud from returning. An operating device rotatable or axially displaceable within the stud and actuated from one or both ends thereof effects the return of the latching members. The means may be used for coupling together two machine parts, e.g. in a chuck or the like, as a hose coupling, in a safety lock system for vehicles etc.
