摘要： A device for treating a process fluid contained within a closed chamber with a chemical reactant including a compartment for containing the chemical reactant and a port for allowing flow of the process fluid therethrough. The device is characterized by a recirculation mechanism, such as a piston, for alternately drawing a portion of the process fluid into the compartment through the port to bring the portion of the process fluid into direct contact with the chemical reactant and dissolve and/or react a portion of the chemical reactant into the portion of the process fluid and then forcing the portion of the process fluid out of the compartment through the port to circulate the dissolved chemical reactant throughout the remaining process fluid within the closed chamber.A method of treating the process fluid is also disclosed and includes the steps of disposing a portion of the device below the surface of the process fluid so that the port of the device is within the process fluid. The method is characterized by the step of recirculating the process fluid through the device by alternately drawing a portion of the process fluid into the compartment through the port to bring the portion of the process fluid into direct contact with the chemical reactant and dissolve and/or react a portion of the chemical reactant into the portion of the process fluid and then forcing the portion of the process fluid out of the first compartment through the port to circulate the dissolved chemical reactant throughout the remaining process fluid within the closed chamber.

摘要： The present invention relates to a dispersant for removing petroleum and petroleum products from the surface of water basins.Said dispersant comprises an aqueous solution of a surfactant, viz. a mixture of salts of phosphoric acid esters and hydroxyethylated higher aliphatic alcohols of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl radical of a normal or iso- structure containing 7 to 12 carbon atoms;Me is an alkali metal;m=4 to 6.The dispersant according to the present invention is a non-toxic biologically degradable compound which enables its use for the removal of petroleum and petroleum products not only from the sea surface but also from the surface of shallow and small-size closed water basins.

摘要： In order to protect the environment from pollution, it is desirable to keep the polyvinyl alcohol content in waste waters as low as possible. Polyvinyl alcohol may be removed from waste waters by means of microorganisms on the the one hand, and on the other according to chemical/mechanical methods by salting-out and precipitation and subsequent separation of the solids. Advantageous is the precipitation in the form of a polyvinyl alcohol/boric acid/didiol complex, especially by means of alkaline earth metal hydroxides in an alkaline medium. Calcium hydroxide is a particularly suitable alkaline earth metal hydroxide.

摘要： The invention relates to processes for dispersing oil spillages using compositions prepared by on-site dilution of concentrates containing as emulsifying agent an aliphatic carboxylic acid polyoxyalkylene glycol monoester, as solvent an aryl or aliphatic dicarboxylic acid monohydric aliphatic alcohol ester, and as pour-point depressant an alkylene, or polyoxyalkylene, glycol monoalkyl ether. These concentrates are physically and chemically stable to a wide range of temperatures, and may easily be diluted with water, especially sea-water, immediately prior to application, without any risk of gellation or an unacceptable viscosity increase, to give a use composition.

摘要： Apparatus for purifying water comprising a fitting for installation in a water line to define a primary water flow path. A Venturi tube is mounted in the fitting and positioned in the primary water flow path. A secondary water flow path is established between the fitting at either end of the Venturi tube and the inlet of a tank connected to the fitting. The tank houses a container having an outlet communicating with the primary water flow path which contains a bed of elemental iodine crystals. The Venturi creates a pressure differential forcing a small portion of the water in the water line to flow through the bed of iodine crystals in the container and then be returned to the water line.

摘要： Refinery waste waters containing dissolved hydrogen sulfide and ammonia are stripped of hydrogen sulfide by a countercurrent stream of refinery absorber gas which removes substantially all of the hydrogen sulfide and none of the ammonia. The dissolved ammonia is subsequently removed by steam stripping, leaving a waste water sufficiently clean to be non-polluting.
