摘要： A novel metal oxide nanotube made only of a metal oxide is produced by the use of a helical fiber (Japanese Patent Application No. 2001-239014). The metal oxide nanotube has a pore diameter distribution having two peak pore diameters in the ranges of 1-2 nm and 3-7 nm respectively, constitutes a double helix, takes the form of a hollow cylinder, and is made only of a metal oxide which may contain hydroxyl groups. The nanotube can be produced by a process comprising the step of dissolving a compound (1) represented by the general formula (1) and a compound (2) represented by the general formula (2): (1) (2) [wherein A and B may be the same or different from each other and are each a sugar residue; R is alkyl; and R’ is hydrogen or alkyl] in water or a mixture of water and alcohol and allowing the resulting solution to stand; the step of adding a precursor of a metal oxide to the solution; the step of adding a catalyst for converting the precursor into a metal oxide; and the step of firing the gel formed in the preceding step. The nanotube exhibits an extremely high hydrogen occlusion capacity.

摘要： Compositions and methods for selectively binding specific metal ions, such as Ca and C , contained in a source solution are disclosed and described. This is accomplished by the use of a composition comprised of an EGTA ligand covalently bonded to a membrane support. The composition formula of the present invention is M-B-L where M is a membrane having a hydrophilic, partially hydrophilic or a composite membrane with a hydrophilic surface, B is a covalent linkage, and L is an EGTA ligand. The separation is accomplished by passing a source solution containing the ions to be separated through a device containing the membrane-ligand composition, causing the selected ions to be complexed to the EGTA ligands and subsequently removing the selected ions from the device by passing an aqueous receiving solution through the device and quantitatively stripping the selected ions from the EGTA ligand.

摘要： An ion exchangeable mixture containing a polymeric compound consisting of an ion exchange resin, an acrylamide mixture containing at least one bisacrylamide and at least one acrylamide, and a copolymer obtained by reacting the polymeric compound with the acrylamide mixture, and a method of producing the same are provided. The ion exchangeable membrane produced by using the ion exchangeable mixture has significantly smaller electric resistance than conventional ion exchangeable membranes, and has excellent selective permeability because the ion exchangeable membrane is electrically charged. The ion exchangeable membrane can be produced under very mild production conditions, and thus can be produced very easily. Furthermore, the ion exchangeable membrane can be also formed into film during a crosslinking reaction in a solvent of water, and thus is advantageous in that the ion exchangeable membrane can be freely produced into desired sizes, shapes and forms.

摘要： The preparation of concentrated solutions of oxime metal extractants, such as aldoximes and ketoximes, or mixtures of aldoxime and ketoxime, and the use thereof in formulating or preparing extraction reagent compositions for use in an extractant organic phase in a process of extracting metals from aqueous solutions containing metal values; and in particular, to concentrates which are solutions of individual ketoxime or aldoxime or mixtures of water-insoluble hydroxy aldoximes and ketoximes, in varying ratios by weight of 1:100 aldoxime to ketoxime, or conversely, 100:1 ketoxime to aldoxime, in water-immiscible hydrocarbon solvents or equilibrium modifiers. The invention also provides for maintaining stability of concentrates determined by accelerating rate calorimetry to define the ranges of oxime concentration and volume whereby the concentrate will be a stable, flowable, pourable and pumpable concentrate which can be safely stored long term. The extraction compositions may also optionally contain equilibrium modifiers or kinetic additives.
