    • Method and apparatus are provided for linearized balanced signal mixing. A signal mixing circuit (10) for translating a radio frequency (RF) signal is provided comprising an input amplifier (12), a mixer network (14), and an output buffer amplifier (18). The input amplifier (12) is configured to produce an amplified RF signal and cancel an input third-order intermodulation (IM3) distortion in the amplified RF signal with a cross-coupled feedback amplifier (13). The mixer network (14) is configured to produce an intermediate frequency (IF) signal based on the amplified RF signal and a local oscillator signal. The output amplifier (18) is configured to buffer the IF signal and cancel an output IM3 distortion in the IF signal with a cross-coupled feedback amplifier (19). The input amplifier (12) and cross-coupled feedback amplifier (13) also serve as a bias current source for the mixer network (14), thus lowering the supply voltage required for the mixing circuit (10).

    • A mixer of a homodyne RF receiver made from a CMOS process is provided. The mixer comprises a gain stage, a switch stage and a load stage. The gain stage receives a differential-typed RF signal and generating a first gained signal. The switch stage mixes the first gained signal and a LO signal to direct down-convert into a modulated signal. The load stage comprises a first transistor, an impedance element and a second transistor. The first transistor provides a low impedance to permit the modulated signal entering the load stage. The second transistor provides a high impedance to resist signals. The load stage converts the modulated signal to a second gained signal according to a first gain coefficient of the impedance element. The first transistor is a parallel pnp BJT, and the second transistor is a vertical npn bipolar BJT.

    • A frequency transposition device includes a current switching circuit with two differential pairs of transistors being controlled by a local oscillator signal. In a current switching circuit calibration mode, the local oscillator is rendered inactive and the two pairs of transistors are calibrated in succession by zeroing the ground path current of one of the pairs of transistors not undergoing calibration, and by setting the voltage difference applied to the bases of the transistors of the pair of transistors undergoing calibration. This is done until the output voltage of the frequency transposition device is zeroed to within a predetermined accuracy. The base voltage difference obtained is stored after calibration. In a normal operating mode the local oscillator is rendered active, and the two stored voltage differences are applied to the respective bases of the two differential pairs of transistors.

    • A double balanced mixer which may be used in communications devices, such as portable or cellular telephones. The mixer includes a first differential amplifier having a first transistor pair whose emitters are connected together, a second differential amplifier having a second transistor pair whose emitters are connected together, and a third differential amplifier having a third transistor pair whose emitters are connected together by way of a resistor. A first constant current source is connected between the emitter of one of the transistors of the third transistor pair and ground. A second constant current source is connected between the emitter of the other transistor of the third transistor pair and ground. A gate circuit is connected to one of the first and second current sources for selectively activating the one connected current source. By selectively activating the current source, the mixer has low power consumption.
