    • Cathode electrodes in a plurality of rows are arranged parallel with one another on a glass substrate. Very small cold cathodes of conical shape are arranged in matrix on the cathode electrodes. An insulating layer (ITO film) having cylindrical slots surrounding cold cathodes is formed above the glass substrate and the cathode electrodes. Gate electrodes in a plurality of columns are formed on the insulating layer in the direction perpendicular to the extension of the cathode electrodes. An intersection between a cathode electrode and a gate electrode corresponds to a pixel. A glass plate is provided above the gate electrodes. An anode electrode is provided entirely on the surface of the glass plate facing the cold cathodes. A phosphor member for each pixel is formed on the surface of the anode electrode facing the cold cathodes. Thus, the light source for emitting light for each pixel is formed. A well-known liquid crystal display panel for controlling (modulating) an amount of transmission light for each pixel is provided above the light source.

    • For use in a self-emitting color display device such as a cathode ray tube (CRT) having a display screen with a phosphor coating on its inner surface, a surface coating disposed on the display screen's outer surface affords improved color purity, or contrast, by reducing overlap in the color spectrum between two adjacent primary colors, i.e., between red and green and/or between green and blue. An organic dye is added to either an inner antistatic layer or an outer antireflective layer of an antireflective/antistatic outer coating on the display screen, where both of the aforementioned layers contain silane. The dye functions as a color filter absorbing only light within the frequency range between adjacent primary colors, such as between the red and green color phosphors, i.e., in the range of 460-500 nm, and/or between the green and blue color phosphors, i.e., in the range of 560-600 nm. A silane coupling agent is also added to serve as a binding agent bridging the organic dye and silane together. In this manner, the organic dye is bonded to the silane in either the antistatic layer or the antireflective layer to prevent separation and escape of the organic dye filter from either of these layers of the outer coating on the display screen.

    • A color image intensifier device combines an image intensifier tube providing monochrome output with input and output color members each having a plurality of color portions for passing respective different light frequencies. The input color member filters the incoming light to the tube for each light spectrum band in timed succession, and the monochrome output of the tube passes through the output color menber to produce a corresponding color component output. The color component outputs are perceived by the eye as a complete color image if the timed modulation of the incoming image is above the threshold level for flicker. In a mechanical version, the color members are input and output color wheels rotated in tandem at the input and output ends of the image intensifier tube. The filter members may also be arranged in the form of linearly reciprocating slides or planes movable in two dimensions. The color members can also be stationary filters which change color by electronic control. The color members may have different input and output filter portions for assigning a false color to a selected input light band, such as infrared light.

    • The invention relates to a large-size image display panel for outdoor use. The image display panel related to the invention has a number of cathode ray tubes which are respectively provided with a plurality of red luminous bodies, green luminous bodies, and blue luminous bodies illuminating themselves by receiving irradiation of electron beams in the inside of the face plate, while each of those cathode ray tubes is also provided with a red filter, a green filter, and a blue filter which are disposed in the outside of the face plate in correspondence with red luminous bodies, green luminous bodies, and blue luminous bodies. Using these filters provided in correspondence with those luminous bodies, electron beams having specific wavelengths from respective luminous bodies are selectively filtered out. As a result, the image display panel related to the invention sufficiently secures the needed luminance intensity of image and reliably generates a satisfactory image exhibiting sharp contrast and high brilliance constantly.

    • A double layered optical low pass filter is provided for use in a color video system for monitoring an object scene. The optical filter is designed to optically complement a dichroic stripe filter to prevent the introduction of spurious signals by any interference between luminance and chrominance signals, while at the same time providing a transmittance of high spatial frequency luminance signal to permit an improved image resolution. The optical low pass filter includes a first phase retarding filter layer designed to provide a first spatial frequency response across the visual spectrum and a second phase retarding filter layer designed to provide a second spatial frequency response across the visual spectrum. The combined resultant optical transfer function of the filter layers disclose a cut off of the higher spatial signal components of the primary color design wavelengths of the respective first and second filter layers, while transmitting a higher spatial frequency for the luminance signal to provide the improved image resolution. The specific cut off spatial frequencies of the primary colors and the bandwidth of the luminance signals can be subjectively optimized for any applicable system.
