    • An apparatus and process is disclosed for the separation of solids from gases in a mixture which is most particularly applicable to an FCC apparatus. The mixture of solids and gases are passed through a conduit and exit through a swirl arm that imparts a swirl motion having a first annular direction to centripetally separate the heavier solids from the lighter gases. The mixture then enters a gas recovery conduit in which at least one plate radially extending from an inner wall impedes rotational motion of the mixture. The mixture enters cyclones at the other end of the gas recovery conduit without substantial swirling motion.

    • This invention relates to a casting sand heating apparatus. The purpose of this invention is to provide a casting sand heating apparatus which can heat sand up to 300° C. or higher with high energy efficiency, lower capital investment and lower operating costs. This apparatus is comprised of a furnace body, sand inlet, smoke discharge and dust removing port, hearth and sand outlet. The sand inlet is arranged at the top of the furnace body, the combustion mouth is arranged in the lower part of the furnace body. Additionally, the heat exchange apparatus is arranged in the middle part of the furnace body. This invention can be used for the heating and baking of fresh and used casting sand.

    • Two spaces are provided, one of which is at a higher pressure than the other. A transfer arrangement serves for transferring a finely divided solid material, e.g., a combustible fuel, from one to the other space, usually from the lower-pressure space into the higher-pressure space. This arrangement includes a housing bounding a spherical chamber having two openings each of which communicates with one of the spaces. A spherical body is located turnably in the housing and provided with a blind bore the open end of which can be placed into communication with one or the other of the openings, depending upon the turning of the spherical body. A piston is reciprocable in this bore and can be retracted to draw a quantity of solid material into the blind bore when the open end thereof registers with one of the openings, and can be advanced for expelling the quantity when the open end registers with the other of the openings. A direct communication between the two spaces is therefore reliably avoided at all times.

    • A fluidized-bed system in which a main chamber and an auxiliary chamber communicate with each other through an opening in a common wall near the bottom of the main chamber. An endless traveling grate rises along the bottom of the main chamber and through the opening into the auxiliary chamber. Granular material is fed to the main chamber and fluidized to a first level by gas passing through apertures in the grate. The fluidized material flows through the common wall into the auxiliary chamber and is held to a lower second level there by a gas pressure higher than that in the disengaging space in the main chamber. The conveyor rises beyond the top of the bed in the auxiliary chamber and discharges lifted material from the auxiliary chamber into a water seal.
