    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission unit which has first and second input shafts, is simple in a constitution of the power transmission unit for an electric drive unit, and low in manufacturing cost.SOLUTION: The first and second input shafts 2, 3 can be driven in mutually-opposite directions by a motor shaft 4 in common. The power transmission unit 1 further comprises a driven shaft 5 which can be connected to the first input shaft 2 or the second input shaft 3 according to the desired rotation direction of the driven shaft 5. The driven shaft 5 is engaged with first and second output shafts 6, 7, the first output shaft 6 can directly be connected to the first input shaft 2 via a first magnetic fluid clutch 8 between the first input shaft 2 and the first output shaft 6, and the second output shaft 7 can directly be connected to the second input shaft 3 via a second magnetic fluid clutch 9 between the second input shaft 3 and the second output shaft 7.

    • Systems and methods relating to a clutch system for use in controllably transmitting torque from an input shaft to an output shaft. The clutch system has a torque transmission fluid that has a viscosity that changes based on the strength of an electromagnetic field passing through the fluid. A number of sensors are placed at different radial locations on the torque transmission disks to detect the strength of the electromagnetic field. Based on the strength of the electromagnetic field, the amount of torque being transmitted from the input shaft to the output shaft can be adjusted. Also disclosed is a distributed actuation architecture that uses this clutch system. The distributed actuation architecture allows for the use of a single drive motor in conjunction with multiple instances of the clutch system to actuate a mechanical linkage, such as a robotic arm.

    • A power transmission unit is disclosed which includes a first input shaft and a second input shaft which can be mutually driven by a motor shaft in opposite directions. A driven shaft can be coupled, depending on the desired sense of rotation of the driven shaft, to the first or to the second input shaft, and can engage with a first output shaft and with a second output shaft. The first output shaft can be directly coupled with the first input shaft via a first magneto-rheological clutch, and the second output shaft can be directly coupled with the second input shaft via a second magneto-rheological clutch. A magneto-rheological clutch is disclosed with a coil powered by wireless energy transmission between a sender connected to a stationary housing and a receiver rotating with the coil.

    • A magnetorheologic clutch includes a stationary part, a rotatable primary part having primary discs, a secondary part having secondary discs, and a chamber containing magnetorheologic fluid formed between the primary and secondary parts that is exposed to an adjustable magnetic field. To make a magnetorheologic clutch as small as possible which is capable of transmitting a peak torque at a minimum power consumption and which is easily controlled, at least one magnet coil is axially arranged before or after the discs and encompasses a first U-shaped cylinder head whose two surfaces are arranged on the side of the discs in a parallel thereto. A second cylinder head is disposed on the side of the discs opposite with respect to the first cylinder head. Areas of the secondary part are radially disposed inside and outside the discs which are made of a low-permeability magnetic material.

    • A magnetorheological clutch comprises a stationary part (1), of a rotatable primary part (2) with primary lamellae (3) and of a secondary part (8) with secondary lamellae (17) which surrounds the primary part (2), there being formed between the primary part (2) and the secondary part (8) a space (28) which contains a magnetorheological fluid, a regulatable magnetic field acting on the magnetorheological fluid.
