    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ignition device for an internal combustion engine for charging up to a target charging voltage within a predetermined time, by quickening a charging speed of a PJ capacitor.SOLUTION: This plasma type ignition device includes a power circuit for supplying plasma energy to a spark plug. The power circuit 100 includes a DC/DC converter 2 for charging a tank capacitor 5, a voltage limiting circuit 3 for limiting an output voltage of a converter 2 to a predetermined value, the PJ capacitor 9 connected to the output side of the converter 2 and charged by the tank capacitor 5, and a high breakdown voltage switch 6 connected between the PJ capacitor and the DC/DC converter and controlling a charging time period of the PJ capacitor in response to operation conditions of the internal combustion engine, and switches a voltage limiting value of the tank capacitor 5 for charging the PJ capacitor in synchronization with a driving signal of the high breakdown voltage switch.
